Tonight we are thrilled to be interviewing 4/5 members of Mr. Pharmacist live-in-studio! They are Toronto's penultimate tribute band to The Fall, often turning in performances to rival if not exceed the gusto of the original group itself. I asked them each to provide their favourite Fall track... I'd imagine it might be a fluid list... "...fav trax: Glenn - New Face in Hell; Toby - Mansion; Joe - Noel's Chemical Effluence; Rob - Ladybird (Green Grass); Mike - The Classical." Find them on FB here... http://facebook.com/misterpharmacist |

John Peel | The Fall as Introduced by John Peel [Excerpt] | The Fall Tribute | Chunklet Industries / Third Uncle Records | 2018 | Tonight starts off our "October Hellraiser" deep dive into the Fall; here on Transmissions From Echo Beach. Here's a great way to introduce the affair...
The Fall | Prague '91 / Mr. Pharmacist | The "Twenty Seven Points" | Permanent Records / Cog Sinister | 1995 | Fiddle – Kenny Brady //// Written-By – J. Nowlen, Smith M.E. -- Live version on 1995 Live (+ studio track) double disc release... This one, seemingly, from 1991, around the time that Kenny Brady was a member of the group playing fiddle. Smith and the Fall in 1986 and appears on the 'Bend Sinister' album. More info on Mr.Pharmacist (the band) can be found at www.facebook.com/misterpharmacist Footage was recorded using a guitar-mounted GoPro Hero cam." The Fall | New Face In Hell (Peel Session) | Totale's Turns (It's Now or Never) [Expanded Deluxe Version] | Castle / Sanctuary Records | 1980 / 2004 | From the Sep 24 1980 John Peel Session. For me, this is the definitive version of this song. The Fall have so many hidden treasures/alternates/extras in their catalogue. It is one of the joys of being a fan. //////// "From Paul Hanley's book Have a Bleedin Guess (p.32): 'New Face in Hell' has a remarkably economical word count, and the events recounted therein would play out in real time in about five minutes. The wireless enthusiast hears an illicit broadcast, nips next door, spots his friend's body and gets arrested. Roll titles. But the fact that the government agent poisons the neighbour and frames the wireless enthusiast rather than simply killing him opens up a host of narrative possibilities, none of which Mark sees any need to explore - which inevitably forces listeners to fill in the rest of the story's detail for themselves." | 0:28:20 (Pop-up)
The Fall | Ladybird (Green Grass) | The Infotainment Scan | Permanent / Matador | 1993 | [Fall fan] "Dan points out that the Fall played at the Glastonbury festival on June 27th, 1992; this song debuted on October 3rd of that year. Dan suspects the "big concert, and concomitant breakdown of society, may be a reference to Glastonbury. See "Bonkers in Phoenix" for another song that seemingly comments on the horrors of an outdoor music festival." | 0:33:23 (Pop-up)
The Fall | Behind The Counter (Peel Session Version) | Behind The Counter E.P. (Volume 1) / Middle Class Revolt aka The Vapourisation Of Reality (Expanded) | Permanent Records / Castle / Sanctuary | 1993 / 2006 | One of those Fall songs that have several versions, each with some element that you miss in the other ones. By the time 1994 & its parent album "Middle Class Revolt" was released, there would be 4 similar but different mixes & sessions of the song. In keeping with the theme of this set, this was recorded: Dec 2, 1993 // First broadcast: February 5, 1994 // Repeated: none. Original full Peel session: M5 / Behind The Counter / Reckoning / Hey! Student | 0:37:30 (Pop-up)
The Fall | Mansion | This Nation's Saving Grace (Omnibus Edition) | Beggar's Banquet Archive | 1985 / 2011 | It is not lost on me that the vocalist of Mr. Pharmacist, Toby, has selected "Mansion", an instrumental clocking in at 1:20 as his favourite Fall song. We might have to ask him about it. | 0:41:35 (Pop-up)
