Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from August 11, 2023 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

my wife's boss around 1990 had a christmas party and rebecca luker was there and sang christmas carols around the piano. it was one of those old school upper east side apartments made for rich people who had maids and had groceries delivered via the back entrance. my wife's boss' husband was a doctor and he was made famous for being in a new york magazine article about being investigated for inappropriate behavior to his female patients. ah, old new york....

Doctorj has left the building, so it is up to me to point out that the Beatles did a much rougher version of this song (or a fragment of it) in Let It Be. Songwriting was attributed to "traditional," I believe.

Thank you! Bronwyn! Had not realized that Josephine Baker performed in the USA in 1964. Also found that she performed in Cuba in 1966. So much to learn.
