Das Kope | Kids In The Sky | Where I Live | Das Kope | 2020 | Long before he started writing psychedelic pop songs, and becoming a Los Angeles resident, George, aka Das Kope, actually lived only a few blocks from where the Brazilian 60’s rock band Os Mutantes had originated. Raised in the west side of São Paulo, the biggest most metropolitan city in Brazil, he was always an outsider with a vision. A self taught guitarist, influenced by the grey cityscape, he found his musical voice in punk rock at a young age. Propelled by the DIY spirit and barely out of his teens, he saved enough money to buy a ticket to Los Angeles, and in an almost runaway fashion he left everything behind in pursuit of music. e became obsessed with guitar pedals, synthesizers, VCRs, After Effects, tape recorders, green screen and anything that brought color to his otherwise nocturnal existence. Inspired by these kaleidoscopic experiments, Das Kope was born. His songs are expressions of a turbulent journey across the world, his visuals are a fantastical balance between city and nature. Get lost in the psychedelic lofi experience of Das Kope. | 0:07:48 (Pop-up)

Russian vocals factor quite a lot in the upcoming debut ep by Good News. Ironically, it wasn’t Bethany’s intention to become the singer in the band. She initially got involved as the synthesizer player but it got lost along the way and Bethany became the guitarist. The new 5 song ep drops very soon! | * | 0:13:20 (Pop-up) |

Dennis Dale McLain (is an American former professional baseball player. He played for ten seasons in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher, most prominently as a member of the Detroit Tigers. In 1968, McLain became the last Major League Baseball pitcher to win 30 or more games during a season (with a record of 31–6) — a feat accomplished by only 11 players in the 20th century. His success in baseball stood in marked contrast to his personal life; he associated with organized crime and was eventually convicted on charges of embezzlement, for which he served time in prison. McLain's success on the playing field led to endorsement opportunities from the Hammond Organ Company; he also made musical appearances in Las Vegas. He was invited to appear with his musical quartet on The Ed Sullivan Show along with his World Series opponent (and guitarist) Bob Gibson. McLain also made appearances on The Steve Allen Show and The Joey Bishop Show. He also released two albums on Capitol Records, Denny McLain at the Organ (1968) and Denny McLain in Las Vegas (1969). Fun Boy Three | Our Lips Are Sealed (Urdu Version) | The Complete Fun Boy Three | Chrysalis Records | 1983 / 2023 | David Byrne produced the 1983 Fun Boy Three album "Waiting" and singles of the period. This is a pretty radically reworked Urdu Version of "Our Lips Are Sealed", a song co-written by Jane Wiedlin, guitarist of the Go-Go's, and Terry Hall, singer of the Specials and Fun Boy Three. "It was first recorded by the Go-Go's as the opening track on their album Beauty and the Beat (1981) and was their debut American single in June 1981. The single eventually reached the top 5 in Australia and Canada, and the top 20 in the United States. The following year, co-writer Terry Hall re-recorded the song with his own band, Fun Boy Three. It was included on their second album Waiting and reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart, and was the last single to chart in the UK before their split later in 1983. Backing vocals were provided by Mo-dettes drummer June Miles-Kingston, who also played drums on the single and the Waiting LP." -- I wish I knew more specifically about this version... It's the B-Side to some formats of Our Lips Are Sealed. It's also part of a new package of all the works, demos, sessions, videos & extras of FB3, which was just released at the beginning of this month. “The Complete Fun Boy Three” collects 69 tracks on 5 CDs, plus DVD of videos and more. "Nicknamed 'King of the Electric Guitar'; Takeshi Terauchi (寺内タケシ, Terauchi Takeshi, 17 January 1939 – 18 June 2021), also known as Terry, was a Japanese instrumental rock guitarist. His preferred guitar was a black Mosrite with a white pickguard. His guitar sound was characterized by frenetic picking, heavy use of tremolo picking and frequent use of his guitar's vibrato arm. /////// Terauchi started his career playing rhythm guitar for a country and Western act "Jimmie Tokita & His Mountain Playboys", which had bassist Chosuke Ikariya. In 1962 he formed his first group, The Blue Jeans. However, in 1966 he left the group and formed The Bunnys with whom he played. In May 1967, he also established his own company named "Teraon". He won the "arrangement award" with the song "Let's Go Unmei" at the 9th Japan Record Awards in 1967. He left the Bunnys in 1968. Mort Garson | The Big Game Hunters See The Cheetah | Journey to the Moon and Beyond | Sacred Bones Records | 2023 | Before he was a paradigm-shifting synth pioneer, Mort Garson was a composer. Born in Canada to Russian Jewish refugees, Garson took up the piano at 11 and practiced obsessively during his teen years. He went on to study at Juilliard, and upon graduating, he began working as an arranger and session pianist. By the early 1960s—his career briefly interrupted by military service in World War II—he had worked with pop singers like Cliff Richard, Brenda Lee, and Bobby Darin. In 1963 he notched a No. 1 hit, composing and arranging “Our Day Will Come,” A 1967 meeting with Robert Moog changed everything. Garson, keen to get weirder with his arrangements, was immediately taken with the gargantuan electronic instrument and bought one of the first Moog systems ever made. Initially, he used it for sound design in jingles and television advertisements, but the deeper he got with the Moog, the more he realized its seemingly endless musical possibilities. “See the Cheetah” is a paisley-patterned mod jam recorded in 1967 by the Big Game Hunters, a band that may or may not have existed outside the studio. Though the two-minute tune has very minimal synth work, the winking playfulness of the arrangement feels like trademark Mort Garson. It’s the kind of bouncy, lite-jazz library psych that Trish Keenan and James Cargill would mine in Broadcast’s early material, full of splashy cymbals, overactive flute, and nonsense lyrics. This reissue is available now on Sacred Bones Records. Get it! | 0:41:04 (Pop-up)

Ofo The Black Company | Allah Wakbarr | World Psychedlic Classics 3: Love's Real Thing - The Funky Fuzzy Sounds of West Africa | Luaka Bop | 2007 | OFO the Black Company was undoubtedly the strangest band of musicians to ever emerge on the Nigerian music scene. The group was unconventional in its refusal to present itself as an entertainment ensemble with the attendant matching suits, coordinated stage moves and toothy showbiz grins. No, OFO was a “musical cult” with an image steeped in mysticism, stemming from its very name, which referenced ofo, a sacred staff that served amongst the Igbo people as a representation of ancestral authority and destiny, through its members’ Afro-shamanic look. Allah Wakbarr,” a screaming, proto-metal orgy of ecstasy exploding around the traditional Islamic exhortation of the creator’s greatness. “It’s not like Larry (shaman and lead singer) was even a Muslim,” says Ify Jerry, who played keys on the record. “He was just into embracing all kinds of spirituality.” This band is one of the very best of zamrock/acid psych/highlife bands...ever. | 0:45:35 (Pop-up)

Siouxsie | One Mile Below | Mantaray | W14 / Universal | 2007 / 2023 | From 2007, (re-released in July 2023), this is the debut solo album from a post-Banshees Siouxsie. "It was by W14 Music on Universal Records, four years after the final album of the Creatures, Hái!. After her first solo tour in 2004, Siouxsie wanted to collaborate with other musicians. She met Steve Evans and Charlie Jones, both of them arranged the songs and produced the record... ...Mantaray was co-produced by Steve Evans (who had previously worked with Robert Plant) and Charlie Jones (who had collaborated with Plant as well as with Goldfrapp). The drums were performed by Clive Deamer, who had previously played with both Plant, and Portishead. Evans and Jones together composed the music for the tracks "About to Happen", "If It Doesn't Kill You", "Sea of Tranquility", "They Follow You" and "Heaven and Alchemy". Siouxsie worked in a different environment with a touch of fear as she didn't know what to expect. //// It was the first time that she worked with producers who also physically played on the record, which made a "huge difference". Instead of recording the album in one block session, she commuted from France to Bath in England where was located the producers' studio. She made several trips from the end of 2006 to May 2007, concentrating on two or three tracks at the time. This working method provided a useful overview, as she stated: "Sometimes when you're so involved in a project day in day out, you can lose sight of the goal or the object. It puts a different discipline to it". She used technology as a tool, listening to the recording process of the music from home. Siouxsie's only instruction to her two composers was "to treat every song as a potential single". | 1:11:39 (Pop-up)
Lol Tolhurst x Budgie x Jacknife Lee | Los Angeles (feat. James Murphy) | Play It Again Sam | 2023 | "The Cure and Siouxsie And The Banshees are two of the all-time great bands. They both came from the same era, and they both had seismic impacts on goth, post-punk, and new wave. Both bands were always intertwined in many ways; the Cure’s Robert Smith, for instance, did a couple of stints as the guitarist for the Banshees. Both acts have been in the news lately, with the Cure’s big North American tour proving that you can make a ton of money while keeping ticket prices relatively low and with Siouxsie Sioux returning for her first live shows in a decade. Now, the definitive drummers from both bands have joined forces with a big-deal producer on a new album, and they’ve got LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy singing on the lead single. Lol Tolhurst was one of the founding members of the Cure. He started with the band in 1976, and he played with them until 1989. Peter “Budgie” Clark joined Siouxsie And The Banshees in 1979, and he stayed with the band until they broke up in 1996. Budgie and Siouxsie Sioux also used to be married, and they had a side project called the Creatures. Since 2021, Lolhurst and Budgie have been doing a post-punk podcast called Curious Creatures. On the forthcoming album Los Angeles, the two of them join forces with Jacknife Lee, a producer best known for his work with Snow Patrol, U2, and R.E.M. //// Los Angeles features a ton of big-name guests, including U2’s Edge, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, IDLES’ Mark Bowen, Lonnie Holley, and Mary Lattimore. LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy sings two songs on the album, and the first of them is the title track. “Los Angeles” is a widescreen industrial shuffle with Murphy screaming about societal ills: “Los Angeles eats its babies! Los Angeles eats its young! Los Angeles, you don’t need water! Los Angeles just needs guns!” It sounds a lot more like LCD Soundsystem than like the Cure or Siouxsie And The Banshees. //// James Murphy doesn’t appear in the Los Angeles videos. Instead, director John Liwag gives us a high-contrast black-and-white cityscape with skateboarders and punk-rock cheerleaders, with Jacknife Lee lip-syncing some of Murphy’s lyrics." Los Angeles (feat. James Murphy) [Official Video] //// Additionally, Lol Tolhurst has a new book coming out... "Goth"... "Following his memoir Cured, a fascinating deep dive into the dark Romanticism of Goth music, a misunderstood genre and culture, by co-founder of The Cure, Lol Tolhurst. GOTH is an entertaining and engaging historical memoir, and a journey through Goth music and culture, exploring creative giants like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Joy Division, and many more great bands that offered a place of refuge for the misfits of the ‘80s and ever since. Written by Lol Tolhurst, co-founder of The Cure, this book offers a riveting retrospective of the genre’s iconic movers and shakers, infused with stories from Tolhurst’s personal trove of memories, as well as anecdotes about the musicians, magicians, and artists who made it all happen—the people, places, and things that made Goth an inevitable and enduring movement." | * | 1:14:39 (Pop-up)
The Glove | Punish Me With Kisses - RS Vocal | Blue Sunshine (Deluxe) | Polydor / Rhino | 1983 / 2003 | Even The Cure's Robert Smith was a member of Siouxsie & The Banshees. (Twice!) - This is a collaboration between Steven Severin of The Banshees + Smith + many other collaborators that would contribute to both bands. The expanded version of this album features demos with Robert Smith on vocals, something he generally did not provide on the album proper. "Robert Smith: Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals / Steven Severin: Bass, Keyboards / with Special Guest Singer: (Jeanette) Landray / Real Drums: Andy Anderson / Real Strings: Ginny Hewes (AKA Gini Ball), Anne Stephenson, Martin McCarrick (Also a Banshee for a spell.) //// Jeanette Landray was a friend of Budgie's. //// Andy Anderson provided percussion on The Top (1984) for The Cure. //// The string players perform with the Banshees on The Thorn (1984). //// Originally only a single was planned, but a productive three days of recording yielded 15 songs. Inspiration was provided by horror films viewed between sessions. The pair also constructed enormous collages with pictures clipped from various magazines which were used for cover art. //// The first song was recorded at the end of 1982 as an experiment. Severin took the title "Punish Me with Kisses" from a pulp novel. Landray provides vocals for most Glove tracks. Smith's voice appears on "Mr. Alphabet Says" and "Perfect Murder." A few are instrumentals. "Relax" is a psychedelic treat. //// The project spawned two singles, "Punish Me With Kisses" and "Like an Animal" and an LP, "Blue Sunshine." released in 1983. The "Blue Sunshine" CD combines all three releases. //// "The Glove" is named after a character from the animated film of The Beatle's Yellow Submarine. "Blue Sunshine" was supposedly chosen to imply the album's summer theme, not to suggest a variety of LSD, nor is it a direct reference to the horror film of the same name (which neither had seen)." | 1:21:07 (Pop-up)
Zor Gabor | Amber | Tightrope | In Tape | 1987 | This song from three-track 12" EP "Tightrope" from 1987, released on Marc Riley's "In Tape" labe. (Mandatory Fall-related content.) Zor Gabor was a short-lived trio led by John McKay, himself the first studio guitarist of Siouxsie and the Banshees. "He was a member of the group from July 1977 until September 1979. He played a "jagged unorthodox chording", and created a "metal-shard roar" with his guitar. Q magazine included McKay's work on "Hong Kong Garden" in its list of the "100 Greatest Guitar Tracks Ever". He recorded two studio albums with the band, their debut album The Scream in 1978 and Join Hands in 1979. //// McKay has been cited as an influence by guitarists such as Geordie Walker of Killing Joke, Robert Smith of the Cure, the Edge of U2, Steve Albini of Big Black, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Jim Reid of the Jesus and Mary Chain, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and Boz Boorer. Record producer Steve Lillywhite stated that McKay was the innovator." ////////// "In August 2023, it was announced that McKay was doing an event in Manchester, in October 2023, titled "An Evening with John McKay of Siouxsie and the Banshees 77-79" (in conversation and demonstrating the "metal-shard roar" guitar sound). Jah Wobble | I Am The Fly | A Brief History Of Now | Cleopatra Records | 2023 | This one is a cover of Wire, featuring a former member of Siouxsie & The Banshees, not to mention Jah Wobble; the first P.I.L. bassist who has since launched a massively active solo career. Re: Wobble... "Does this man ever stop working? More or less fulltime on the road with his current iteration of Invaders of the Heart, with side projects aplenty squeezing into that already crammed tour schedule, yet still whipping out little nuggets of “something I prepared earlier”. Like this. You may recall last year’s Metal Box: Rebuilt In Dub, actually from the year before, his revisiting of the magisterial Public Image Limited outing of 1979, in which he, together with guitarist, Jon Klein (Siouxsie & the Banshees et al), reassembled a bevy of tracks from the original, casting it in a very idiosyncratically Wobble light, at best barely remisniscent of the original, but gloriously complementary. I guess it followed on a 2012 tour by Wobble and the late Keith Levene, the original PIL guitarist, Metal Box: Built In Dub, You can catch the drift. Klein and Wobble have now reconvened to carry on the adventure, with, this time, new material..." //// As for Jon Klien: "Jon Klein (born 9 April 1960) is an English guitarist and producer, best known for being a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees for seven years, from 1987 until 1994. Klein has worked for other artists including Talvin Singh and Sinéad O'Connor. More recently he has worked as a co-producer and guitarist with Fangoria, Space Tribe, ESP, Shriekback, Micko and the Mellotronics and Jah Wobble. //////// He bought an electric guitar at the age of 14. In 1978, he became a member of Bristol band Europeans. In 1980, he formed Bristol band Specimen with Ollie Wisdom and Kev Mills. In 1982, after moving in London and renting a place in Soho, Klein co-founded with Wisdom the club the Batcave, which was a party on Wednesday nights at The Gargoyle. Klein and Wisdom then opened a Batcave club night in New-York... In 1987, he became a full-time member of Siouxsie and the Banshees. He recorded three albums with the band, Peepshow in 1988, Superstition in 1991 and the Rapture in 1995... In 2020 and he co-produced the Micko and the Mellotronics album ½ dove – ½ pigeon, and in 2021 co-produced Metal Box Rebuilt in Dub with Jah Wobble. He is best known as the bassist of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees which he co-founded in 1976. He was also a member of the short-lived band the Glove. Severin had earlier considered "Steve Spunker" for his stage name. After the split of Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1996, Severin created his own label RE: and released several instrumental albums via his official website. In the late 2000s and the early 2010s, he regularly performed live in solo, playing music over footage of silent films." Steven Severin site (official) |

Mildlife | Vapour | Automatic | Heavenly Recordings | 2020 | Mildlife are a Melbourne based, Australian psychedelic jazz fusion group formed in 2013. Their mellifluous mix of jazz, krautrock and, perhaps more pertinently, demon grooves, was the word of mouth sensation of that year among open-minded DJs and diggers searching for the perfect beat. With Automatic, the band have made a step-change from their debut. It’s more disciplined, directional and arguably more danceable. As on Phase, they are unafraid to let a track luxuriate in length without ever succumbing to self-indulgence...good goddess I love this shit. | 1:42:42 (Pop-up)
Yin Yin | Dis ko Dis ko | The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers | Bongo Joe | 2019 | The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers is the very curious debut album by Maastricht based psych band Yin Yin, wherein the Dutch four-piece locate themselves in the middle ground between psychedelia, disco and more traditional South-East Asian tones and tunings. From it's Moroder inspired dukka dukka synths to funky guitar breaks and spacey sounds and asian inspired guitar noodles...this track will get your ass moving! | 1:46:59 (Pop-up)
Lalalar | Isyanlar (Radio Edit) | Isyanlar (Radio Edit) | Dunganga | 2019 | Where has this been all my life? Istanbul’s Lalalar remind you of your favorite 80’s cult show theme, and simultaneously sound like a delightful dumpster dive of spaghetti western-psychedelics, Anatolian funk, sampling and hazy electronics. The one constant: Lalalar is the type of band you want to move to with abandon. YES. THIS IS SOME BADASS SHIZZ | 1:50:00 (Pop-up)
