I like how some of these junkshop glam records emphasize piano and it sounds like a real old fashioned piano. The small rock n roll keyboards don't engage me as much.
Although I was surprised with what Tony MacAlpine can do on one of those. Amazing!

As a small child I learned on an old piano that hsd ivory keys. It feels amazing to hands and it felt to me like I had to hit them hard. I've tried newer pianos and it's not as enjoyable to me. It would be a good thing to force myself to do though. Piano is so cool and versatile.

Man, I haven't played piano in almost five years. I'm thinking of re-learning though just cause guitar players are kind of a dime a dozen so I should be versatile.

When I took guitar lessons it was pointed out to me that it was like piano.
Learning piano helped me in typing classes.

I don't know if you listen to harder kinds of punk rock but check out some of the poison Idea out there if you are thiking of piano in rock. Soooo good. Hangover Heartattack and "Feel The Darkness'. Those are my two favorite songs of theirs that emphasize piano.

Yeah. Pig Champion was an acomplished piano player. I can't remember if Slayer HIppy played piano though. That whole Feel The Darkness album is very good. often overlooked.

oh god, I might be wrong about hangover heart attack. I'm listening to it right now I rmemeber thinking it was the first punk song I wanted to redo on piano (gordon had been talking about me getting one years back) It would translate so well!!! But feel the darkness is one of their lps with piano

I know what you mean! I played piano when I was in high school and I played on an electric piano, more modern upright piano and a very old concert piano which we had at school. Playing the old concert piano was my favourite of the three. Playing on it gave my fingers a certain gentle feel which I loved.

Definitely. In addition to sheet music reading, piano also makes it easier to learn music theory. I started to piano and then moved on to guitar. I don't think I would have learned basic music theory if I had started with the guitar.

💖 When we saw Tony MacAlpine in concert he somehow made one of those small electric rock pianos sound like a big old fashioned one. He really did some impressive classical music. He wrapped blankets around the stand, so that could of been part of it. I can't imagine it would have that same sensation to the hands though.
I had a converted player piano. And for a short time a miniture organ.

I was only in 2nd grade. so my memory is hazy. I was frustrated with my mother for buying me a toy when I had already been stretching my hands and learning to read music since 3 1/2. At 6 1/2 I could finally reach all five keys at once. This one was so tiny I felt like it was for babies. I put stickers on it and played with the buttons that said disco and stuff. I couldn't even fit under it to sit.
I would have a total appreciation for it now though. it was very detailed.

oh I can imagine how one can appreciate it now. I was given a toy keyboard of sorts when I was 16 and I didn't like that at all because I was a hoity toity piano player. Years later, I would dream of it because I realized toy keyboards can make wonderfully eccentric sounds.
