A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

All set up here, with the tall black coffee/chicory, smoothie and Gerald Horne’s “Jazz and Justice: Racism and the Political Economy of the Music.”
The book’s chronicling of the indignities, emasculation, injustice, brutality, being cheated, etc is a torrent of page after page after page of the suffering visited upon black musicians of that time. How widespread and institutionalized it was is very troubling indeed.
Nice cool, sunny day here in Queens, for which I’m grateful.

Loved that soft, beauty intro. It’s somehow morphed into an interminable yet somewhat trancelike Philip Glass thing, but if he were stuck on playing a shuffle. Interesting, though sort of nerve-wracking.

It's something I almost always had to double check upon coming into KBOO's air-room for some reason (maybe the previous DJ using their own cartridges and not being careful when replacing the station's cartridges?)

My kids are suffering pretty badly with stuffed noses, coughing and sneezing.
Not so bad for me, who usually gets walloped too. But every now and then a gulp of wind blown pollen dust will reach into my throat and cause a fit.
Sniffle…

Began doing a regiment first thing every morning that started with deep breathing, followed by yoga and then a cold shower. At some point was able to hold my breath for two minutes, and then take cold showers for over 10 minutes. Did that for a good year and more.
Have got away from the cold shower routine, although every day expose myself to a little or more cold water on the shower (fun fact: Thomas Jefferson attributed his longevity and good health to soaking his feet in cold water every morning).
Juat recently got back into the deep breathing - and it really makes a difference. Slows the heart rate down (which is really good for ya) and gives a bit of meditative relaxation that you take with you throughout the day. Back up to two minutes this week!
Good stuff, y’all.

Reminder of having heard Antibalas on Clay’s show this morning.
If you’re gonna keep this up, Trouble, I’m getting my bicycle out sooner than later. Perfect cruising-through-the-city music!

Playing a classmate’s graduation party with my little R&R trio, set up in her parent’s living room. In between sets the disco 45’s would come out and all the girls would dance while we watched. Alternating our over-exuberant takes on hard and classic rock past and present, with the current dance tunes - made for magical times…
