A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Hey Trouble, and Troublemakers. To the ramparts, comrades! May ‘68 tribute, fantastic, Trouble. Well done on the brown thrasher! I hear them often, but can rarely spy them. It's a very weird nature year here, the chipmunks and red squirrels are so few, and the predator birds are more visible likely due to difficulty in finding prey.

It was great. Damon and Naomi (erstwhile rhythm section from Galaxie 500) were the openers, but all four musicians shared each other's sets. Meg and Charlie Saufley came out to play drums and electric guitar for the second half of D&N's set, and then D&N came out to play drums and bass for the second half of Meg's set, which also featured Meg pulling out a Mellotron after apologizing for gear thoroughness.

It was a great show. She's transportative.

We were there in 2016, fully 16 years since the only other time we'd been there. And I was *extremely* proud of myself for navigating us to our favorite bar by dead reckoning and muscle memory.

Best interaction there: Everyone goes out to smoke during a set break, and I say to the bartender, "Tout le monde fume, et moi, je ne fume plus," and she reached over and cupped my cheek and said, "Le pauvre."

Ladies and gentlemen, I quivered.

But before I go want to follow up with last week’s suggestion about an anti-capitalist Troublemakers meetup. Have already heard from a handful of you, thanks! If you want to be part of it get in touch via email.

Actually, that's helpful. Roslyn is in the mountains so you would get snow, not rain in the winter. Along the west coast of Washington is the rainy area. I thought the rain was manageable. It would be like an average late fall rainy day. Light rain to a drizzle at most. But it's not constant throughout the whole day. There's plenty of sunny days in the "rainy season". I think's it's most difficult for folks who move there from say California who experience sunchine all year and little variation in seasons. The summers are sunny and quite pleasant.

Gotta head out. Thanks, Trouble! Given references to May '68, it seems Guy Debord is more relevant than ever. While individuals are treated with contempt as workers, they are lavishly courted and seduced as consumers. Modern society is a consumer society, a society of "spectacle." After degrading "being" into "having," the society of the spectacle has transformed "having" into merely "appearing". People no longer buy commodities; they buy images. The simulation is preferred to reality
