A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Well, K8 would tell it better, but as I understand, it was outside on a pier in Seattle, with the sound behind as a backdrop. Nina on a piano. A little obligatory rain. And K8 was thoroughly transported. She must have been in her twenties?

Hey folks. Late start for me, not sleeping great lately. Coming off bronchitis.
Can not stop thinking of the Ohio train derailment, and White Noise. Went back to the Penguin Viking Critical Library edition, chock full of excellent reviews and scholarly analysis. Been delving in deep and been blown away by his prescience and how fresh and poignant his ideas and criticisms still are.
DeLillo’s writing about consumerism, existential dread, commerce, American culture, etc are just exceptional, and often hilarious.
Totally bizarro coincidence that lots of the film was shot miles from the East Palestine, OH disaster.
To me it’s another of those incidents to which anyone can see in the non-reaction/coverage and cover-ups that NY’s declaration about another avoidable tragedy at the hands of vicious government and corporate power in that Midwestern state holds true again and possibly for all-time: “We’re finally on our own…”

It's honestly kind of suburban! Godfather II has a lot more going on in NYC. So much of the Godfather is Long Island. But I guess it's gotta be let in.

"When Farrow was reluctant to film a scene that depicted a dazed and preoccupied Rosemary wandering into the middle of Fifth Avenue into oncoming traffic, Polanski pointed to her pregnancy padding and reassured her, "no one's going to hit a pregnant woman". The scene was successfully shot with Farrow walking into real traffic and Polanski following, operating the hand-held camera since he was the only one willing to do it."

My buddy pulled off a great coup a couple weeks back. He wanted to go buy edibles from one of the hundreds of gray-market weed stores that have sprung up anywhere. His wife says to him, "They'll never sell to you. You look like a cop!" He insists he looks nothing like a cop. But he's nervous now. He goes to the store, and there's this middle-aged white dude in there trying to buy, and the staff is being cagey, and my buddy shouts, "They won't sell to you because you look like a cop!" Staff agrees. My buddy gets the goods.

A week later he goes back again, and the one guy behind the counter turns to the other and says, "Don't worry -- he's not a cop."
