	11:15pm northguineahills: phew! been volunteering since this morning hurricane-proofing the homeless shelter. Had to allow 40 more bodies to sleep on the cafeteria floor. Only lost power four times. Finally got back home and put two levels of sandbags in front of my door. Have received 5 inches of rain so far, expecting 7 more. Winds right now are 35mph gusts to 55, and tomorrow should be 55mph, gusts to 70... so tired.... good thing Ian decided to head southeast of here (25 miles SE), b/c yesterday the eye was supposed to pass 3 miles to the west...

Ken Vandermark is certainly a giant, certainly pushing boundaries, utterly staking a claim in the history of music. He just happens to be the first example that came to mind. I don't think we're wanting. Nevertheless, I mourn the loss of unique greats like Pharoah Sanders.
