Avatar 10:05pm
Constantly Choking:

yeah, WFMU started making me irrationally anxious and so I stopped listening for a long time...but it's gone back to being a source of good in my life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
zzz:

greetings SS and all!
MMW, the best
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Sam Segal:

Glad to hear the good has returned, CC. We'll try to keep the vibrations positive in Horse World.
  10:07pm
Scobot:

I completely forgot about MM&W!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, zzz! MMW, a band that crosses over between the jam world and the Downtown avant scene...seems like your kind of thing.
Avatar 10:07pm
Constantly Choking:

so far so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Sam Segal:

I had too, Scobot! Cannot even remember what compelled me to revisit that album this week, but it holds up quite well, I think.
  10:09pm
Scobot:

Loved it, Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
zzz:

hah yeah, basically Sam, that crossover is a treat for me. i appreciate that they didnt shy away from the jam thing, embraced it for a bit but are totally unique and legit. maybe they were on the radar bc they played a festive in bk last week and o think are playing at woodsist fest next week (?)
  10:13pm
Scobot:

I own The Dropper and End of the World Party (Just in Case). So inventive. Thanks, again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
zzz:

scobot, they have a trilogy of releases called Radiolarians I-III that are all worth seeking out. came after those blue note releases you mention
  10:19pm
Scobot:

I will check that out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Sam Segal:

Haven't heard those ones either, zzz. Will definitely investigate.
Avatar 10:24pm
Constantly Choking:

nice to see the No Age love, Nouns was a huge record for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

Just confirmed that MMW did in fact play Bonnaroo in 2004, back when it was a jam band festival.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Sam Segal:

I think I first got into No Age after seeing them open for Pavement during their first reunion tour back in 2010.
Avatar 10:25pm
Constantly Choking:

ah bet they're good live
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Sam Segal:

Really good. Fun to see Dean Spunt play drums and sing at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
zzz:

this is a fun set so far.
i’m looking at the bonnaroo ‘04 lineup. i mean, it’s pretty stacked, even without any jam bands- wilco, bob dylan, yo la tengo, burning spear, tan mahal, marc ribot, bad plus, ween, …
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
doctorjazz:

Hello Horsemen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Sam Segal:

Damn, wish I was at Bonnaroo '04. Maybe I'm remembering it more as a jam band festival in that era because that is what I was into in '04.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Sam Segal:

Doc! Thanks for sidling up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
doctorjazz:

That is quite a line up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
zzz:

oh no you definitely have all the jam bands there as well it looks like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm

this eyving kang took an unexpected and pleasant turn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, ngh! Hoping it is good busy and not bad busy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

zzz...not going to lie, when I got on the MMW kick, I was reminded of Vida Blue, and went back to check them out again...thought about playing something from them on the show, but I couldn't tell if I only liked it out of nostalgia, or if it was actually good.
  10:40pm
Dean:

Why is Picchio Del Pozzo, among the enormous array of Italian prog/fusion bands, the go-to at WFMU?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
zzz:

haha. ok there’s a band i haven’t heard in like 20 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Sam Segal:

@Dean, for me, it is the fact that this release came out on Cuneiform, a label with which I am familiar. Any other great Italian prog bands I should check out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Sam Segal:

@zzz, revisiting "The Illustrated Band" by Vida Blue...not the worst way to pass the time while doing the dishes and cleaning the apartment over the weekend, I'll say that much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Jeff Golick:

What I think of when I hear Vida Blue: waxpackgods.com...
  10:54pm
Scobot:

What typeface would you choose for your ad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Sam Segal:

Why, Papyrus, of course, Scobot!
  10:57pm
Dean:

"Any other great Italian prog bands I should check out?"

Yow. Yes, more than I can begin to enumerate. My particular favorite is Acqua Fragile," first album, but they are one little sliver of good Italian progressive rock.
  10:58pm
Scobot:

Perfect! It’s so rarely used. Quite exotic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm

I am now spazzing out after eating too many dark-chocolate-covered pretzels. cbmxnlxckzmbzsdmgojaso gi;ja;osdgnaosdg;ih;aoigdj!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Sam Segal:

Speaking of typefaces, the graphic design on that Vida Blue card is beautiful, Jeff. They just don't make baseball cards like they used to (I say casually, as if I--and all of you--continue to buy new baseball cards regularly).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Sam Segal:

Ike! I warned you to be careful with those!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Sam Segal:

Acqua Fragile...I like that sound of that. Thank you for the recommendation, Dean!
  11:01pm
Scobot:

Egyptienne Zierinitialien is sexy in a large body of text. Please bold, if you’d like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
Sam Segal:

Unfortunately, I was correct about the names of the guys in No Age. But maybe it would still be worth taking out an ad to publicize the fact that I was right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
zzz:

i like hearing more of joshua abrams outside of (the incredible) natural information society.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
doctorjazz:

Nice set-got out to hear some live jazz tonight, Warren Vache, trumpet, at a local Josey club called Shanghai Jazz (also a fusion Asian restaurant). Aside from people in the burns not being quiet during sets, it was very nice indeed! (The Klezmatics will give a free concert in Washington Square Park this Saturday afternoon, hope to make it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Sam Segal:

Natural Information Society are incredible indeed. They were at Union Pool for a free show on Sunday, but I couldn't make it. I've seen them there before though, and it was amazing. Abrams is definitely a great bassist in more Jazz (with a capital J) settings as well though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Sam Segal:

Klezmatics for free in Washington Square Park...sounds like a nice way to spend some time on shabbas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
zzz:

agree klezmatics in the park, nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm

That's what I posted in Dave Sewelsons board Monday, when I heard about the show! Saw them a few months back, they're a great band.
