Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

@5:08 Midge: I did love Hendrix, yardbirds, The Who & Led Zeppelin as an 8 year old but Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd were a bit too much really, for their own respective qualities. Two years later I got madly into them too.

...Worship those really. Except Xep never took residence in my heart like the others.
Don't remember ever not loving Floyd.
Ummagumma indeed ! I think as a little kid it actually altered my consciousness (pre-drugs I mean).
Velvets ...that was one my older brother was not that into somehow. When one discover them - one feels part of a small important secret order. If not the original Punk band - they are pretty much the original Alt band. (Well so were TheMonks & SilverApples & ...anyhow.)

@5:13 Revolution Rabbit Nov63: all of the ones I mentioned I heard at the music department of local library. So, first 8yo me did not like VU&Nico, then 2 years later I heard The Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy and through that VU started making sense if you can say that.
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
1.) Overexposure. Which can make any food distasteful. But ! - this can change over time...
2.) RogerWaters is a real miseryguts. He's not wrong about the world & society - but it's always the same thing...

I often compare Musical diet to Food diet. I find that has utility!

(but sadly most likely it was a one night only sort of affair, Michael Monroe's 60th birthday concert) They did plenty of gigs in UK, did you ever see them live?

Even so - one loved DonnaSummer & some of it that was clearly just good Pop or Funk ...but there was Disco Duck (Formulaic in other words) & yer Dad wanting to be Travolta & no Rawk in club or on the Radio ...yerknow - I maintain the blowback didn't come out of nowhere.

@RevolutionRabbit - totally! These bands are not unique. Look at Prince, etc. More the experience of being a fan and how the records hit when they came out... subjective but definitely different than having the whole catalogue at your fingertips is all.
