	👻 9:12pm Austin Rich: This Beltones record was a birthday gift from a short-lived co-worker, from my Barnes & Noble Days, who knew the band, and had a few duplicates of this records in his collection. So a lot of us got this record. He was so short lived, I think I worked with him for four months.

	👻 9:15pm Austin Rich: This particular Weridos record was re-issued in 1991, but was originally recorded in 1978, if my research is correct.

	👻 9:20pm Austin Rich: I let Ashtray stay with me when they were on tour, and they gave me this 7", and signed it for me. They were so sweet; the singers are married, and now have kids, and don't drink so much anymore...

	👻 9:21pm Austin Rich: Ashtray played on my radio show back on that tour, and they prepared radio-friendly versions of all their songs! It was really cute.

	👻 9:24pm Austin Rich: Modern Mono was one of those things that, by the time I found it, it wasn't around much longer. But fortunately, my friend Colin had recordings, and I got to know the show better that way.

	👻 9:25pm Austin Rich: This was part of several records that our (the ramencitykid and I) mutual friend Matt gifted me, and I was very grateful for. This song still cracks me up the most of this era of DM.

	👻 9:28pm Austin Rich: This VOM record was a genuine bootleg that I bought, but I didn't know that at the time. I thought it was a real re-issue, as reported on the back.
	👻 9:28pm Austin Rich: Richard Meltzer, the rock critic that sort of invented rock and roll journalism along with Lester Bangs, is singing for VOM. And yeah, the Angry Samoans are backing him!
	👻 9:30pm Austin Rich: I really love this Miss record. They have an album that is excellent, too.

	9:33pm Mr Fab: Meltzer used to host an overnight radio show, til he got bored with it and walked away. Don Bolles took it over.
	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: That's great, Mr. Fab! I think he wrote about doing radio in one of his books, but he mostly just broke rules, as he put it.
	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: This Dub Narcotic record is the best record of the 90's. Hands down.

	👻 9:38pm Austin Rich: I think Meltzer lives in PDX, if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes, I'm listening, Bill.

	👻 9:40pm Austin Rich: The guys in /root_DIR asked me to design the cover for their record, and you can see it here. Our mutual friend, kiisu, appears on one of the tracks, singing, which makes this record a sort-of Cathead reunion. We have a band now, all of us, called The Short Pockets, which has six songs and has played one show.
	9:40pm Bill: He toured Canada on a train in 2009. I think he ran into a bit of a snag when the train workers decided to strike, if I remember correctly.

	9:41pm Mr. X: Hey, and I even met the /root_DIR guys that one time.
	👻 9:41pm Austin Rich: Midnight Persuasion does not exist anymore, but is actually a Salem, Oregon band! And I really like this record.

	👻 9:42pm Austin Rich: I think all the guys in this band are "lifers" (always in some band, some how, some way).
	👻 9:43pm Austin Rich: This Nation of Ulysses record is the other most important record released in the '90s.
	👻 9:44pm Austin Rich: "A Love Supreme."
	9:45pm Bill: Were these guys all in the Cupid Car Club band? I have that record that has "Grape Juice Plus" on it.

	👻 9:45pm Austin Rich: I think at least one member was also in Cupid Car Club, but ramencitykid would know more.
	👻 9:46pm Austin Rich: "13 Point Plan To Destroy America" by Nation of Ulysses is still one of my favorite records of all time.
	👻 9:47pm Austin Rich: "We dance on your grave every night! When you die, we come alive!"
	👻 9:48pm Austin Rich: While I didn't choose it for this show, there is another song by Oswald 5-0 called, "A Love Supreme," that almost made the cut. But I think about this song all the time.
	👻 9:49pm Austin Rich: I made a little video of me flipping through all the records I used to make this show. I'll make sure to re-post it to the Sheena's social media.
	👻 9:49pm Austin Rich: Oswald 5-0 were heroes to all the punk kids in Eugene, because they were classy, dressed sharp, put on great shows, and really taught us all what it was to be cool. Their records stand the test of time, for sure.

	👻 9:50pm Austin Rich: House of Records helped raise me, after my parents kicked me out.

	👻 9:52pm Austin Rich: I had the New Bloods on my show back in 2007, and they thanked me in the credits for this seven inch because of that! It also helped that I was close friends with Cassia, from this band.
	👻 9:52pm Austin Rich: Hopefully, Mr. X! It's mostly older dudes who come in right now, but maybe I need to work on the weekends to see the kids.

	👻 9:54pm Austin Rich: Sex Crime has at least one of The Epoxies, but also one of The Headliners (a PDX band). Sort of a local supergroup.
	👻 9:55pm Austin Rich: (I think Sex Crime is not together anymore, but they put on great shows when they were around.)

	👻 9:56pm Austin Rich: Yeah, they were so much fun.
	9:56pm Bill: And the wobbly grooves on the record.
	👻 9:57pm Austin Rich: Pierced Arrows was a short-lived band that was essentially Dead Moon with a new drummer. A ton of fun, but didn't really last long. Both songs on this record are amazing.
	9:57pm Bill: I have this one! I got to see them here in Winnipeg.
	👻 9:57pm Austin Rich: They were great, Bill! But everything Fred and Toody did was solid gold.
	👻 9:58pm Austin Rich: I think I counted, and only saw Dead Moon about six times. But I had opportunities that I turned down, and I really regret it, now.

	10:09pm Heather: Yesssss!!! I'm so excited! My friend Leigh and I used to write letters in the high school library to Al Burian from that band. And he wrote us back! We were and are pretty big fans.
	👻 10:09pm Austin Rich: Norb, from Boris The Sprinkler, was sort of famous for being able to do rants like this, and often, making them up as he goes. (Though he usually wrote stuff for recordings.)

	10:13pm xapnomapcase1: One of the VERY few MP records with a woman. I was so excited to buy this one.
	👻 10:14pm Austin Rich: I was gonna say, I think this is the only one? But I could be wrong.
	10:14pm xapnomapcase1: It's almost certainly the only all woman one, but it's possible there was a woman or two elsewhere. I couldn't say for sure.

	10:16pm Bill: Yeah, it has some crazy ranting articles in it. I remember he talks about how Maximum RnR got sick of him and basically got rid of him.

	👻 10:17pm Austin Rich: Though, most of the Mutant Pop records featured bands from all over the US. I think they only had two bands that were officially from the Northwest, but they sort of got lumped into that scene.
	10:17pm Bill: It has artwork by our very own local artist Darren Marinuk on the cover.
	👻 10:18pm Austin Rich: Hmmm. Don't think so, bob Plasticland. This one got started in the early '90's.
	10:19pm xapnomapcase1: BUGLITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss them so much.
	👻 10:20pm Austin Rich: Buglite was the band I was the most excited about, when I got this box of records. There's a lot of Buglite records, and I only knew a couple songs before this batch. And they really capture something about the mid-90's that I really miss.
	10:20pm Mr. X: I confess that I occasionally watched The Brady Bunch when I was a kid.
	👻 10:20pm Austin Rich: I've seen my share; I grew up at the right time for it to always be in re-runs.
	10:20pm xapnomapcase1: I should also say that all of these records may not be strictly Mutant Pop, but they were all purchased from Tim.

	👻 10:21pm Austin Rich: LIke, Buglite had a record on MP, but a lot of records on other labels, too.

	👻 10:22pm Austin Rich: This band, too. After School Special had a MP record, but this one was on another label.
	10:22pm xapnomapcase1: When the label went down, Tim sold off all of the Buglite stuff in a bundle. That's how I managed to get all of it.

	👻 10:23pm Austin Rich: When I had Dr. Frank on my show in 2007, he told me that before he came to meet me, he had been to Tim's to raid his remaining MP stuff.

	👻 10:24pm Austin Rich: One of the Jesses from The Automatics went on to be in The Epoxies, and then The Bloodtypes. The Epoxies were supposed to reunite before covid... but that is now on hold, as I understand.

	👻 10:31pm Austin Rich: The Kung Fu Monkeys was the best discovery that I didn't know anything about until this box arrived. There's a few Kung Fu Monkeys records, and I really love all of them!

	👻 10:40pm Austin Rich: This set actually draws heavily from a few different "comps" that were also included in this package of records, to expand the number of artists I could include in the show.
	👻 10:40pm Austin Rich: I was talking about this the other day: the first few years of the 2000s still felt like the '90's. I mark the switch to the 2000's around 2004 for me.
	👻 10:43pm Austin Rich: Since the cover to this MP record actually "breaks" the tradition they established with all their other records, the cover is a comic that makes fun of that.
	10:43pm Mr Fab: a People Who Died special? I nominate WFMU pals like Howie Pyro (of D-generation, and er, Danzig) and Brother Cleve, of Combustible Edison, and Del Fuegos.
	👻 10:44pm Austin Rich: Yeah, I've been collecting some names and people to feature. There's a lot of ground to cover... might become a two-parter.
	10:45pm ramencity: That short-lived band with jean Luc Godard and Queen Elizabeth - that heady autumn of 1962...
	👻 10:46pm Austin Rich: Because of short runs, often on colored vinyl, and with hand-written inserts, etc... a lot of records from the various indie scenes of the '90's are quite valuable. Though not always the bands you think. Still, if you bought records in the '90's, and you were prone to buying stuff on small labels, check discogs. You might be sitting on some very important records.
	10:47pm Mr Fab: I know what you mean about the early aughts were basically still the '90s: movements like the lounge revival and "big beat" electronica like Fatboy Slim were still big for the first couple years of the new millennium. People were still buying physical formats. Downloading hadn't overturned the apple cart yet. Record stores all started to close in 2005.

	👻 10:50pm Austin Rich: I think you are right, Bob. But they toured a LOT in the '90's, and I think they had friends in Eugene, where I lived, because they played there every six months, for years.
	👻 10:52pm Austin Rich: This "Ruth's Hat" song also has a place in my head forever now.

African), thrift-store oldies, avant-garde, etc. By the end of the "Nineties" (2003 or so) I realized I missed rockin, and came back.

Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

	👻 9:12pm Austin Rich: This Beltones record was a birthday gift from a short-lived co-worker, from my Barnes & Noble Days, who knew the band, and had a few duplicates of this records in his collection. So a lot of us got this record. He was so short lived, I think I worked with him for four months.

	👻 9:20pm Austin Rich: I let Ashtray stay with me when they were on tour, and they gave me this 7", and signed it for me. They were so sweet; the singers are married, and now have kids, and don't drink so much anymore...

	👻 9:21pm Austin Rich: Ashtray played on my radio show back on that tour, and they prepared radio-friendly versions of all their songs! It was really cute.

	👻 9:24pm Austin Rich: Modern Mono was one of those things that, by the time I found it, it wasn't around much longer. But fortunately, my friend Colin had recordings, and I got to know the show better that way.

	👻 9:25pm Austin Rich: This was part of several records that our (the ramencitykid and I) mutual friend Matt gifted me, and I was very grateful for. This song still cracks me up the most of this era of DM.

	👻 9:28pm Austin Rich: This VOM record was a genuine bootleg that I bought, but I didn't know that at the time. I thought it was a real re-issue, as reported on the back.
	👻 9:28pm Austin Rich: Richard Meltzer, the rock critic that sort of invented rock and roll journalism along with Lester Bangs, is singing for VOM. And yeah, the Angry Samoans are backing him!
	👻 9:30pm Austin Rich: I really love this Miss record. They have an album that is excellent, too.

	9:33pm Mr Fab: Meltzer used to host an overnight radio show, til he got bored with it and walked away. Don Bolles took it over.
	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: That's great, Mr. Fab! I think he wrote about doing radio in one of his books, but he mostly just broke rules, as he put it.
	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: This Dub Narcotic record is the best record of the 90's. Hands down.

	👻 9:40pm Austin Rich: The guys in /root_DIR asked me to design the cover for their record, and you can see it here. Our mutual friend, kiisu, appears on one of the tracks, singing, which makes this record a sort-of Cathead reunion. We have a band now, all of us, called The Short Pockets, which has six songs and has played one show.
	9:40pm Bill: He toured Canada on a train in 2009. I think he ran into a bit of a snag when the train workers decided to strike, if I remember correctly.

	👻 9:41pm Austin Rich: Midnight Persuasion does not exist anymore, but is actually a Salem, Oregon band! And I really like this record.

	👻 9:42pm Austin Rich: I think all the guys in this band are "lifers" (always in some band, some how, some way).
	👻 9:43pm Austin Rich: This Nation of Ulysses record is the other most important record released in the '90s.

	9:45pm Bill: Were these guys all in the Cupid Car Club band? I have that record that has "Grape Juice Plus" on it.

	👻 9:46pm Austin Rich: "13 Point Plan To Destroy America" by Nation of Ulysses is still one of my favorite records of all time.

	👻 9:48pm Austin Rich: While I didn't choose it for this show, there is another song by Oswald 5-0 called, "A Love Supreme," that almost made the cut. But I think about this song all the time.

	👻 9:49pm Austin Rich: Oswald 5-0 were heroes to all the punk kids in Eugene, because they were classy, dressed sharp, put on great shows, and really taught us all what it was to be cool. Their records stand the test of time, for sure.

	👻 9:57pm Austin Rich: Pierced Arrows was a short-lived band that was essentially Dead Moon with a new drummer. A ton of fun, but didn't really last long. Both songs on this record are amazing.

	👻 10:17pm Austin Rich: Though, most of the Mutant Pop records featured bands from all over the US. I think they only had two bands that were officially from the Northwest, but they sort of got lumped into that scene.
	10:17pm Bill: It has artwork by our very own local artist Darren Marinuk on the cover.
	👻 10:18pm Austin Rich: Hmmm. Don't think so, bob Plasticland. This one got started in the early '90's.
	10:19pm xapnomapcase1: BUGLITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss them so much.
	👻 10:20pm Austin Rich: Buglite was the band I was the most excited about, when I got this box of records. There's a lot of Buglite records, and I only knew a couple songs before this batch. And they really capture something about the mid-90's that I really miss.

Though not always the bands you think. Still, if you bought records in the '90's, and you were prone to buying stuff on small labels, check discogs. You might be sitting on some very important records.
	10:47pm Mr Fab: I know what you mean about the early aughts were basically still the '90s: movements like the lounge revival and "big beat" electronica like Fatboy Slim were still big for the first couple years of the new millennium. People were still buying physical formats. Downloading hadn't overturned the apple cart yet. Record stores all started to close in 2005.

African), thrift-store oldies, avant-garde, etc. By the end of the "Nineties" (2003 or so) I realized I missed rockin, and came back.
