	6:34pm Austin Rich: I'm coming up on 25 years since I started radio (1998), and its been a bumpy ride. I've outlasted a few different stations and studios, and had to move a few times, which takes some time to get integrated with a new station. I think moving to Sheena's has been the best move, and the place I have started making my best shows. Lot's of good comes out of here.

	6:35pm shangri-lounge: I'm just in my Otto's and WFMU bubble, so it's fun to be out there with the general populous during a DJ set. It's the best when you see people who did intend to stumble upon you have a good time anyway.

	6:37pm Feldy: I've asked Rich in Washington about how much work goes into just one hour of radio, and how much music do you own to do a show every week, and his answer was he's a music hoarder :)
	6:38pm shangri-lounge: Some shows come together really quickly. Other shows I am building for months, haha. I don't really improvise. It's all planned out in advance.
	6:38pm Austin Rich: Rich is pretty dedicated. Before I was on at Sheena's, I guested on his show at KBOO, and it was a lot of fun. That guy is a pro.
	6:38pm shangri-lounge: But, I'm usually working on at least 5 at once.
	6:39pm Austin Rich: I think I shocked some people before, when I mentioned that I try to stay five shows ahead, so I can pick and choose on game day, AND so I have a cushion, in the event I get a job and can't produce a show for a week or two. It doesn't always work... I think I'm four ahead on MVM, and three ahead on Dimestore. But it's give and take, depending on the week.
	6:41pm shangri-lounge: Yeah, also it's more fun to work on a certain type of show when you're in the right mood. Or, you stumble upon something that might be perfect for one show but not another. I keep a building list of stuff to potentially add to the future ~right one~ playlists.

	6:42pm Austin Rich: You don't sound like a rookie, and in radio, the way you sound is often all that matters.

	6:43pm Austin Rich: I had a listener ship me a box of 45s. A ton of cool 90's punk stuff that I used to listen to as a "yout" and now all I have left are the tattoos and the broken skateboards in the garage. So I think I'm going to interrupt my planned shows, and play a bunch of that stuff in two weeks.
	6:44pm shangri-lounge: That sounds fun! Pretty cool they did that.
	6:45pm Austin Rich: (I realize that sounds like I "forced" them to send it; the listener heard me talk about regretting that I didn't buy certain records when I was young, and yesterday, a box of records showed up. It was very sweet; the listener has mailed me some other stuff in the past, too. Star Wars action figures and stuff.)

	6:55pm Austin Rich: The Gary U. S. Bonds influence is TOTALLY there, StringOFperils! I had just never heard Ronnie team up with E Street before. But the kid who listened to all of that stuff 35 years ago could tell who it was without looking at the playlist. How clear the audio memory is.
	6:56pm shangri-lounge: It's great how all those early NYC punk bands looooved Ronnie and the girl groups.

	7:11pm David in California: Actually, Haruki Murakami has been DJing on Japanese radio, and plays a lot of sixties and seventies American and European pop, which makes sense given all the references to it in his novels.

	7:13pm Austin Rich: Maybe we can get them to DJ for us, David? I've been meaning to check out Haruki Murakami's books, as they have been highly recommended. I just haven't picked one up yet.

	7:17pm David in California: Murakami has a reputation as a recluse, so people were surprised when he started doing his show on Japanese radio. Realistically, it's a longshot that he would do it anywhere else, but it was interesting to read one of his playlists.

	7:23pm David in California: Feldy, western music is very important in Murakami's novels (two of his early novels are titled Norwegian Wood and Dance Dance Dance). I was surprised by a reference to Gene Pitney in one of his novels, then found out the first record he bought was by Gene Pitney. He used to run a jazz club, and refers to that music as well.

	7:35pm shangri-lounge: My mother often has the easy listening channel going on her TV set when I come to visit, and this Paul Weston track is definitely giving me THAT. And, I love it.

	6:34pm Austin Rich: I'm coming up on 25 years since I started radio (1998), and its been a bumpy ride. I've outlasted a few different stations and studios, and had to move a few times, which takes some time to get integrated with a new station. I think moving to Sheena's has been the best move, and the place I have started making my best shows. Lot's of good comes out of here.

	6:37pm Feldy: I've asked Rich in Washington about how much work goes into just one hour of radio, and how much music do you own to do a show every week, and his answer was he's a music hoarder :)
	6:38pm shangri-lounge: Some shows come together really quickly. Other shows I am building for months, haha. I don't really improvise. It's all planned out in advance.
	6:38pm Austin Rich: Rich is pretty dedicated. Before I was on at Sheena's, I guested on his show at KBOO, and it was a lot of fun. That guy is a pro.
	6:38pm shangri-lounge: But, I'm usually working on at least 5 at once.
	6:39pm Austin Rich: I think I shocked some people before, when I mentioned that I try to stay five shows ahead, so I can pick and choose on game day, AND so I have a cushion, in the event I get a job and can't produce a show for a week or two. It doesn't always work... I think I'm four ahead on MVM, and three ahead on Dimestore. But it's give and take, depending on the week.
	6:41pm shangri-lounge: Yeah, also it's more fun to work on a certain type of show when you're in the right mood. Or, you stumble upon something that might be perfect for one show but not another. I keep a building list of stuff to potentially add to the future ~right one~ playlists.

A ton of cool 90's punk stuff that I used to listen to as a "yout" and now all I have left are the tattoos and the broken skateboards in the garage. So I think I'm going to interrupt my planned shows, and play a bunch of that stuff in two weeks.

	6:45pm Austin Rich: (I realize that sounds like I "forced" them to send it; the listener heard me talk about regretting that I didn't buy certain records when I was young, and yesterday, a box of records showed up. It was very sweet; the listener has mailed me some other stuff in the past, too. Star Wars action figures and stuff.)

I was surprised by a reference to Gene Pitney in one of his novels, then found out the first record he bought was by Gene Pitney. He used to run a jazz club, and refers to that music as well.
