I was at JazzFest in New Orleans all day Fri/Sat/Sun. We leave home daily at 9:30am, get home 8-9pm. I know on the weekend I saw people asking here [meaning a non-FMU site] about what I was seeing, but I had no time (or signal strength, or phone battery remaining, etc.) to say anything from the venue on the weekend. So here's a little about Sunday...
It was pouring rain Sunday 7-8am, with rain forecast into the afternoon, so Mary Ellen and I decided to just do one of the eight or ten concert venues all day, and not have to move around from place to place in the rain and mud. (In the end it never rained after 11am...) We did the Blues Tent venue, with seating provided by the venue, so we didn't have to lug foldup lawn chairs as normally we have to. So we saw 6 or 7 sets from 11:30 till 6:45, in one spot.
One midday set included Clarence "Frogman" Henry (a local), who had to sing from a rolling chair (he's 85), but he still could sing super well, hold an audience, joke and improvise, etc. Two people held him up on each side so he could sing a song or two standing up. But he was still in better shape than Phil Collins -- not sure if that's funny, sad, or both.
Later in the same set, The Dixie Cups -- they were the first American group to knock the Beatles out of the top charting 45/single sales position in the mid 60s. They can still sing, too.
(Part One of maybe Three or Four)

The highlight of the day in the Blues Tent, where we were, was Randy Newman, who apparently had a big following at the festival. The staff had to keep clearing people out, over and over, who wanted to sit down or stand in the aisles through the seating area that the Fire Dept requires for performance venues. Super super crowded, but Mary Ellen and I had worked our way forward in the venue when seats emptied between each set, so by Newman we were on the end of row two, center seating. :-) We were maybe 50-60 feet from Newman as he did a 75 minute set sitting at a Steinway, solo. He did his biggest hits, plus others, and two Louisiana-related songs that are popular here (about the 1927 Mississippi flood, and about Huey Long) -- he lived in New Orleans for awhile when young. He kept saying "you're so kind, very kind, more kind than you know" etc. after songs. I think he felt was not 100% of what he was 20-30 years ago, but if he was 85-90% of what he was at one time, he still sounded good. He is obviously not in great shape. Dragged his feet or shuffled, like an old guy (which he is), getting on and off stage, and his head is permanently turned toward the floor. Beat up wrinkly old shirt and jeans -- made Archie Bunker look well dressed. But he can still do his songs (piano, voice) well, maybe not for a lot longer. I think he tried to end his set a little early because he was tired, but someone from the crew met him coming off stage and it looked as if he made him go back and finish his contracted set length, 2-3 more songs lol.

The Chili Peppers closed Sunday at one of the largest outside stages. Mary Ellen stayed in our seat(s) in the Blues Tent during Deacon John, but I used the bathroom and went over to the Chilis area. Man, it was like it often is when the big longstanding acts do a set -- completely overjammed, and people standing in all the walkways jammed together. Hard to get anywhere if you do not get a good seat several sets earlier at the same venue, and then hold onto it till the big act, which comes on late in the day. I only got close enough to see the left-side video projection. Yep, Flea was shirtless and jumping around backwards, as usual, they sounded pretty good, I heard some of their wellknown songs. I mean, they are getting on in years, and de facto are a legacy act now, but still bring it. Kiedis is making some weird fashion statement these days, I guess -- bowl cut like out of Dumb and Dumber, and a porn stache -- not exactly his early 90s look lol. But they were good. They also did not close their show with Give It Away for the first time since 2004; stuck it in earlier. Maybe they are sick of playing it? Trying to freshen the set?
I then headed back to the Blues Tent for most of Deacon Jones, the closing set there. Mary Ellen especially wanted to see him because she said he was the best and most fun deposition she ever did, maybe 20 years ago. He was nice, fun, fair, very fun experience as a deponent lol. He was a character witness for a plaintiff in an IP vio suit, and as always Mary Ellen is on the other/defense side. The case eventually settled for a 5-figure amount. Just another day at the office lol

Been listening on and off while I attend to other essential stuff. I too love Cat Power's version of 'These Days'. I like Nico's and also saw Jackson Browne sing it with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on a PBS fund raiser show that I stumbled upon a few weeks ago. I liked that version too but I don't like his own version (though it's his song.)
