Goofy Grape (as well as Lefty Lemon, Jolly Olly Orange, etc.) were the characters from Funny Face, another sugary drink (I think they sold the mix & you added water), not Kool-Aid. My first business was a Funny Face stand, selling the stuff (they sent you the whole thing, cardboard pieces you assembled to make your own table/banner, etc.). I still have the 7-inch record of songs they put out in '68 or so (there's no date on it, nor info on who actually wrote these things). I'll take the best offer...hahaha.

I don't know the history of the band Them, but that guitarist sure sounds like the same guy who played on Van's "Brown Eyed Girl". Same style, similar licks straight from the Pops Staples/Steve Cropper library. Cool track.

clarke & DG: you guys were correct, it wasn't cool aid that put them out, it was Pillsbury. And the other flavor characters besides the ones that I mentioned and DJ mentioned were Rootin tootin raspberry, loud mouth line, and later on there was this with it watermelon character. Their sales pitch was that it was a pre sweetened mix with no sugar, so that made it all right for kids to drink all they wanted.
