	🥁 5:04pm Discotech Underground: In commercial radio you had to backtime to hit the network for news or whatever else. When they started the feed, you had to be there or you clip the beginning or get dead air because you were too soon. It's a lost art.

	5:18pm northguineahills: Watching Blow-up made me look for the sndrk in the 11th grade, and I found it almost a year later in a Blockbuster. B/tn the Yardbirds and Herbie Hancock, it opened my ears and eyes to a lot.....

	🥁 5:19pm Discotech Underground: northguineahills-I had a Japanese import of the Blow Up soundtrack and was horrified to find the Yardbirds track was an awful rechanneled stereo hack job! The original MONO vinyl is the way to go!

	🥁 5:20pm Discotech Underground: Julie P-I told my girlfriend about radio...it's like riding a bike...you don't forget! I still have dreams about being on the air behind a mixing board and before I started this show I hadn't done an airshift in over thirty years. (my last radio job I was a production director, so no air shift!)
	5:22pm Julie P.: LOL, Kip - I had those dreams too! And they would involve weird situations like an outdoor control room and commercials from the previous day's log.

	🥁 5:24pm Discotech Underground: Julie P-Mine are always about being on the air and nothing is working...all the carts are blank, there are no record or music on cart to play, nothing to just put on the air for a couple of minutes so I can figure out what's going on and how to fix it! Ironically that actually happened to me on the air once!!! I was doing a fill in on Sunday morning and I was not trained and had no clue what to do! Luckily it was at 6am on a Sunday so no one heard it, but I clearly still live with the trauma!!!

	5:33pm Julie P.: Kip - I still remember one time we were doing local drop-ins on a national telethon, and though the local times were supposed to be slightly fluid, they started to drop to us almost ten minutes early, and we had to do a DefCon 4 scramble to round everyone (including talent) up from all over the building. Good times.

	🥁 5:43pm Discotech Underground: When I was going to college for radio, one of the local stations aired it in syndication! That was our dinner time entertainment.
	5:45pm Julie P.: I worked with a couple of guys in radio that were much like Venus Flytrap and Johnny Fever.

	5:47pm Julie P.: Jay - at least they were able to manage it so they could get it released. The music rights for "Murphy Brown" are part of the reason that only the first season has been released on DVD.
	🥁 5:47pm Discotech Underground: MOM-Yes, they met on the set of the TV show "Hotel" and were married for a number of years. She gave up acting when they got married and stayed at home and raised their child.
	🥁 5:48pm MOM WHIG: I watch the "old Murphy Brown" each nite here on Cozy TV at 1am
	🥁 5:50pm Discotech Underground: If you notice, the end theme to WKRP has no actual words, the guy who recorded it said he just made up fake words for the song!

	5:50pm Jay S.: Right Julie - it took forever but they finally got WKRP out...unlike Tim Reid's follow-up show Frank's Place, which music rights stopped cold
	5:50pm Julie P.: northguineahills - some handy references for Florida bands are "Savage Lost" by Jeffrey Lemlich and "Florida's Famous & Forgotten" by Kurt Kurtis.

	6:15pm northguineahills: The only terrestrial station here in Olrlando worth a buzz, is the Hispanic station, they play some bangers. cumbia, ranchero, y norteno. All of the other stations are awful.

	6:24pm Julie P.: Jay - there is a large element of the listening population that has a narrow focus on what they like to hear. Deep cuts need not apply.
	6:25pm northguineahills: @Scott: I have no idea how the tick got me. I was wearing jeans and boots the whole time and went to take shower, and then there was fat and happy tick sucking on my foot. Luckily, it wasn't a deer tick. A friend of mine I drove up there actutally did get Lyme Disease/
	6:25pm Jay S.: So if they heard a different song by an artist they know and like, their heads would explode. That's pathetic.
	🥁 6:27pm Discotech Underground: Julie P-Radio is all driven by the "consultants" who do "research" on what songs the stations should play. If a song doesn't test well, it doesn't get played. That is why oldies and "classic" formats are so boring...they are programmed for people with no depth of interest like people who listen to satellite and internet stream radio do. One of the oldies stations I used to work for had a two day song separation and in some cases you would hear the same song on consecutive days!
	6:28pm Jay S.: There was that radio format that went by some regular person's name, where they claimed "We play anything we want!"...and it was the same old stuff
	6:28pm northguineahills: I likr to hear djs play what I don't like to hear. Hence, why I'm here and in WFMUland (Otherwise, I'd never learn new to me music.)
	6:29pm marpay: Woof Moo has cured me of that syndrome, LOL! I heard a song from Peter Noone that WASN'T Mrs. Brown or Henery the 8th!
	6:29pm Julie P.: Kip - the flip side of that is in the 60's and 70's a popular record would get played once an hour.

	🥁 6:30pm Discotech Underground: Jay S-My last long car trip was in a car with Sirius XM and even the "Deep Cuts" channel was dullsville. I ended up listening to the vintage soul channel because it was the only one where I could go more than two songs without turning it off!

	6:34pm northguineahills: @Marpay: I read an article about WFMU in 1998. I then went to my office (I was still in uni), b/c they better bandwidth and listened to my first show from FL. I think it's half the reason I moved to NYC.

Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

	5:18pm northguineahills: Watching Blow-up made me look for the sndrk in the 11th grade, and I found it almost a year later in a Blockbuster. B/tn the Yardbirds and Herbie Hancock, it opened my ears and eyes to a lot.....

I still have dreams about being on the air behind a mixing board and before I started this show I hadn't done an airshift in over thirty years. (my last radio job I was a production director, so no air shift!)
	5:22pm Julie P.: LOL, Kip - I had those dreams too! And they would involve weird situations like an outdoor control room and commercials from the previous day's log.

	🥁 5:24pm Discotech Underground: Julie P-Mine are always about being on the air and nothing is working...all the carts are blank, there are no record or music on cart to play, nothing to just put on the air for a couple of minutes so I can figure out what's going on and how to fix it! Ironically that actually happened to me on the air once!!! I was doing a fill in on Sunday morning and I was not trained and had no clue what to do! Luckily it was at 6am on a Sunday so no one heard it, but I clearly still live with the trauma!!!

	5:33pm Julie P.: Kip - I still remember one time we were doing local drop-ins on a national telethon, and though the local times were supposed to be slightly fluid, they started to drop to us almost ten minutes early, and we had to do a DefCon 4 scramble to round everyone (including talent) up from all over the building. Good times.

	5:47pm Julie P.: Jay - at least they were able to manage it so they could get it released. The music rights for "Murphy Brown" are part of the reason that only the first season has been released on DVD.
	🥁 5:47pm Discotech Underground: MOM-Yes, they met on the set of the TV show "Hotel" and were married for a number of years. She gave up acting when they got married and stayed at home and raised their child.

	6:15pm northguineahills: The only terrestrial station here in Olrlando worth a buzz, is the Hispanic station, they play some bangers. cumbia, ranchero, y norteno. All of the other stations are awful.

	🥁 6:27pm Discotech Underground: Julie P-Radio is all driven by the "consultants" who do "research" on what songs the stations should play. If a song doesn't test well, it doesn't get played. That is why oldies and "classic" formats are so boring...they are programmed for people with no depth of interest like people who listen to satellite and internet stream radio do. One of the oldies stations I used to work for had a two day song separation and in some cases you would hear the same song on consecutive days!
