I imagine a lot o people were effected by this album like I was - starting with the Klarwien cover - which decades ago when young I found both fascinating & a little spooky... recorded I think days after Woodstock - roiling & strung out in its way...

I think it reveals its complexities the more closely you listen to it. I can imagine hippies dancing to parts of it, but then putting on headphones and having their head rattled a little but by how much is going on.

If you're talking about this album, I think it's a very sympathetic/sympatico treatment of the material, that I imagine Jimi would have dug, in that it's not corny or overly academic. like Gil wasn't trying to straighten out/improve on the source material

@TDK60 - I think you're right, sounding more like 1969/70 than a lot of the hippie stuff we're led to believe captured the zeitgeist, much like the sound of the Stooges did the same. The echoes of riots in the streets and burning cities

Have observed that the better Hendrix Covers are somewhat ironically not by Rawkers... Gil's another instance of this. Treated with simpatico I'd say - he gets it.
Indeed Bitches Brew was recorded in the three days after Woodstock. & Woodstock is iconic of some halcyon epiphany - but I think if you watch it - it's muddy & string out & political... & I think Miles was always the Cool surface with the roiling undercurrent...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Funky16Corners:

@Kip - I think there are a couple of different styles of free/out that tread the border between control and anarchy in different ways. Ornette Coleman's quartet and Archie Shepp and the NY Contemporary Five are records I love, but some of Trane's out stuff is too much for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm

Comment found under the RVG remaster of "One Flight Up" at Discogs: "This release (and a few others) made me think that RVG must have been a jerk when it came to working with master tapes from other engineers.
