Hi! Whoa 2-hour fry coming up! You can play some really long Diamanda Galas or have some live-ish guesting.

Hello, Dan and all Fryers! I used to sort my dad's meds for the week on Sundays...now I do it on Mondays between 7 and 8! This is good music to arrange pills to. Oops...a benzo just fell in my mouth! What to do?

Here's what happens when vocal is completely overheated! I measured Mimmi Rosendahl's whistle at 10500 Hz or so.

Hi, YB. What's your situation this afternoon? Alternator fixed and all?
Avatar 7:17pm
YETI BOB:

KFHP: No, I'm cooling my heels here in Sedona until the car is fixed. Not the worst place to be stuck - it's beautiful, even if everyone here is crazy.

Does that gutural technique have a name?

@WHH: Wow. I can hear that in my left ear, but not in my damaged right ear. It's damn impressive but also a bit painful. Mimi, please don't do that! :-)

@YETI BOB Mimi is LOUD! she did warn to turn down the volume. It's not super loud to me, but my spectrogram says it is!

(only Wilf I know is a character in a William Gibson novel, so I don't think that counts.)

actually I'm pleasantly surprised I can hear 10.5KH in my "good" ear, at my age

Ken From Hyde Park:

A guy named Zygi Wilf owns the Minnesota Vikings sportsball team, but I don't think that counts either.
Avatar 7:31pm
YETI BOB:

@WHH: I think that perceived loudness increases with pitch, even if absolute amplitude is held constant. That's part of the reason Mimi's whistle tone is so LOUD
Avatar 7:32pm
YETI BOB:

@KFHP: I was thinking of this guy en.wikipedia.org... who wrote some important math books

this is getting in my head in a very nice way there, dan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
coelacanth∅:

i can hear Mimi's whistle loud and clear - and it kills me! frequency-wise i have the hearing of an average 17-year-old; but those highs almost instantly make me feel like shit.
it's not uncommon for me to have to turn off soundscapes, drones and such on Bryce's or Fabio's shows because of high frequencies.
...Mimi's Amazing nonetheless!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm

Thanks for sharing it Henry. fascinating

Webhamster Henry:

I wrota an imaginary Sound event featuring top octave music: (2006) For Children Only: Sting Labs (Anopheles, 2006)
The giddy realization that adults can't really hear sound above 15KHz or so makes this all digital treat literally unlistenable. Some of these have turned up as ringtones. Most of the time, if you see a bunch of kids gyrating in the street in rhythm, you can blame these guys.
Avatar 🍳 Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
Webhamster Henry:

Also from 2018: Bella Kline is a jeweler who makes microscopic bells and flutes out of silver. Working with a microscope, the tiny bells and clappers are crafted with pitches so high you can only hear the interference of their frequencies. The tiny whistles and ocarinas play only one note, and are played with eyedroppers.
  7:46pm
headcleaner:

@Henry - is there a way to tweak the frequency bands on that "unlistenable" track somehow so that adults can ... sort of hear it? Or at least be able to able to extrapolate the high-frequency parts?
Avatar 🍳 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Webhamster Henry:

@headcleaner - sure - it's easy to transpose it down an octave, which is pretty detectable!
