Yeah.....The Three Johns!!!! I recall a show of theirs in Leeds in 1989 where halfway through the set the whole stage collapsed! Band, equipment and PA were suddenly at crowd level. A highly dangerous situation for all concerned. But the band never flinched and continued playing and the audience kept dancing (on checking nobody was hurt first off course)

Seeing Ajay's much earlier comment reminded me of a (much less dramatic) performance of Sheets of Easter by Oneida. The stage didn't collapse, but the keyboard stand did slowly go down. They didn't miss a beat, and finally a guy rushed in to put it back up before Bobby had to get down on his knees. Great memory

*still here, had to do some things on the laptop before bed... this Babe Ruth track is so good! WFMU is seriously one of the best things. I really don't know what I would do with out it. this past ears has been tough during lockdown, in a small NorCal town of 3k people... sheltered in place for 12 months straight now, with very few contacts. this station has reeled me in and kept me sane over the years in many ways, but especially this past year. Thank you! Goodnight!

Fred, yeah, exactly. It was phrase used by the soixante huitards for people who’d drink in bars and sound off a lot but who wouldn’t actually join in. β€˜Empty vessels make most noise’ is, I think, the closest phrase we have in English. Don’t know whether you use that in the US.
