The fox(es?) are doing the wildlife damage around here. The raccoon that used to bust through the doggie door has been consumed, There was only about 20% of vole/mole holes last year and I only stepped on one snake (down from 2-3). Water snakes took a powder last summer and the muskrat sightings were about half. I startled a fox in my cellarway yesterday, and I saw one of her offspring trot across the yard with a squirrel in its mouth

Its natural predators have probably been decimated, and the fox is crafty and adaptable/resilient. As is the raccoon, but not when it comes to the fox. The bears and big cats and wolves that have to come into town now aren't doing so well either. We aren't doing so great either but we're too dumb to see it.

I'm surprised we have the foxes to the degree we do. We are in a mature community that was 90% built out by the 70s. Most homes are on a 1/4 acre or less. There's a community "park" (only accessible by homes that border it) next to us, but it's only a couple acres and is mostly a buffer where it was too steep for accessing the water. They all appear to live in that small space and branch out into the neighborhood for meals. Our yard is their thoroughfare apparently. We have a motion-sensor light by our front door that gets activated a half-dozen times an evening.

So much speech flying about these days that is truly objectionable, speech that doesn't employ expletives at all. And people only obsess about how to produce more of it, at screaming volume. Probably a lot of folks inside the FCC who stand behind that trend too. Sigh.

Our wildlife population swings wildly, the one constant seems to be the pine martin, cause no one is going to mess with them. The fox population stays pretty much the same. All the rodents have feast and famine years, depending on nuts. The predators remain constant, because there's enough humans for most to stay in the parks.

Nice capture! Our 'fox' (probably not the same one for 14 years) is quite large. One year spotted effortlessly trotting across the road with a raven in it's mouth. When Palin was running for VP and it came out that she legalized and participated in hunting wolves from airplanes, my friend and I invented an Atari 2600 game called Wolf Sandwich where there are planes flying in the midscreen shooting down at wolves on the ground and you play flying wolves at the top of the screen shooting down at the planes. Another friend drew it in pen and then made me a JPEG in Atari-style graphics, which I use as the splash screen on my computer.

(When I tried to ask locals about CD's or LP's, they looked at me uncomprehending, until finally one had the "light bulb" go off, and he told me,"nobody uses these, we just download onto a memory stick).
Live music I could find was bad covers of American Pop, Discos playing American Pop from around 1990-2000

My daughter's dog (the mini Labradoodle-Maxie) has new company in the house, we got a Bernadoodle a few weeks ago. Maxie was bigger than Laila, and has been the dominant one in the house. But Laila just passed her in weight by a pound or so, and will likely be 3 times her weight by the time she finishes growing. I'm curious to see if the early dominance, and general "tough guy" attitude, will carry forward when she's tiny compared to Laila (we had a dog that we had to put to sleep a few months ago-Maxie had no problem nipping at and irritating him, but he was already old).

Our 15 year old Sheltie is getting noticeably older almost every day now. I have to carry him a lot. Blind, lame and deaf but still a good guy. And he still keeps better time than some of the watches I've owned. Don't know how he does that.

we used to grind our beans but I used the grinder to pulverize some cloves in a baking emergency and coffee never smelled the same afterwards. Didn't want to spend the bucks for a new grinder so we go with what we can get. However, I scored a deluxe cold brew coffee thingie at a church thrift store and that requires a coarsly ground bean, so we may look for another grinder. That way our $2 cold brewer can wind up costing $20 anyway...
