There have been a few Byrds Dylan cover compilations, the longest of which was about 20 songs, so I'd guess an hour, tops, oh well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Funky16Corners:

I did a Dylan covers show a while back, it had only one Byrds record in it, so the possibilities for a Byrds-heavy volume two are good

Hey Larry! Thanks for the fill-in. The work thing I took off for got cancelled due to the weather, so it's nice to hear what you're doing. I really like this John Buck Wilkin album you're been playing. What's known about him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Irene! I will go into his story in depth at the break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Funky16Corners:

He has lots of interesting connections.

There was an article in Rolling Stone about The Weight last week - ownership or 50% of it goes back to Big Pink - worth reading

Hey Ira! I'll look for that.

Ooh, Jimmie Spheeris! Love his music. Haven't played his records in a while.

Hello Larry. Ah Jimmie Spheeris. Love this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
doctorjazz:

What I read about The Weight was that Dylan's publishing had the rights, which were sold when Dylan sold his catalog recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I was trying to figure out how Dylan got the rights in the first place
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Brian in UK:

The string arranger on Spheeris' first four albums. David Campbell, is Beck's dad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Funky16Corners:

I did not know that!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
WR:

Had roommate back then who listened a lot to John Martyn and Jimmie Spheeris. I was more into Tim Buckley and Shawn Phillips when in mood for this sort of thing. Jeez. That was so long ago but the music bridges me to that time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Funky16Corners:

Buckley and Phillips both added in a little jazz flavor
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Brian in UK:

And his sister directed Wayne's World. Enough trivia.

Funky16Corners:

Yes! They grew up in a traveling carnival, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Funky16Corners:

If Lee Hazlewood had never made another record I'd still think he was a mad genius for this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Irene Trudel:

I discovered Jimmie Spheeris in high school through a friend who was into lots of soft pop. She was also totally in Bread/David Gates, whose music doesn't hold up as well for me. I also discovered Tim Buckley around that time-- Goodbye and Hello being a particular fave. And Some Velvet Morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Funky16Corners:

I like some bread (and I'm a big fan of David Gates and Jimmy Griffin's pre-Bread work) but I think Spheeris operated on a deeper level. Buckley I dig but in small doses.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Brian in UK:

David Campbell's CV is impressive.
That high note at the end of I Am The Mercury gets me every time!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Brian in UK:

Larry, two or three hours?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Funky16Corners:

I really didn't know about Spheeris until a few years ago, but I keep running into people who are 5-10 years older than me who have loved his stuff since it came out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Funky16Corners:

Three hours!
