Daybreak & the Hybrid Life:
only half of the students were supposed to be there, which is how the hybrid life goes.
It turns out only 1/3 to 1/2 of that half actually showed up. Everybody else was virtual.
Many of the staff were also not in and had substitutes.
I wrote a nice, respectful email to my building principal asking, since all of this is true, what is it about this particular week that is so high risk, that makes it necessary for have us to be in building?
The response:
“Let’s chat about your concerns tomorrow.”
So I invited him to come up to my bathroom duty so we can chat about it...
In the physical building once again today.

Thanks Butterman! Thanks Peter from Dover!
In the Covid times I makes sure only one person at a time goes in each bathroom which usually hold 5.
The rest wait in a 6 foot spread out line.
I like a public place for my “chats”, even when the building principle is a decent sort.

@The Butterman
I do not see the benefit or continuity of jumping from face to face, virtual, hybrid learning from week to week or day to day. Academic hopscotch sounds nauseating. At least the county college where I labor declared most classes remote this semester and I expect, in the summer. Fall remains unknown.

On WFMU
Trying to undestroyed decent songs that were destroyed by commercial radio repetition.
Deborah:
It bled into WFMU, of course, and other frequencies. I used to marvel how such a powerful frequency could be devoted to the cult dribble that poured out of there. Not much of an FM listener these days unless it is WFMU or WQXR (sorry) or WBGO, at times, when they are not too self righteous.

True that!
I listen at times to Paul Cavalconte do the American Songbook on WNYC and it shocks me when I hear Procol Harum played. I can see where some of what was thought to be so revolutionary spills into "standards" almost 50 years later. Just so weird. Thinking about the song "Time" by the Poso Seco singers, I think.
