the vegan pecan pie was the Salted Chocolate Pecan Pie from Pisces Rising (part of Seitan Rising) in Bushwick -- INSANELY sweet (could NOT eat the whole slice in one sitting, had to divide it up over three days!) but not sure if it was full on DERANGED! :)

my parents, being very "old country" insisted on giving us a full tablespoon of cod liver oil straight, with no chaser . . . and yeah, NOW i like horseradish! but as a little kid, another one of those yucky foods that the "old" people ate -- like pickled herring and sour cream
mariano:
Handy: Southern style TxGiving/Xmas sweet-potatoes can also carry a hefty payload of bourbon. And butter, and brown sugar and orange zest.

Handy: I know all about fraught search terms. Years ago at my then-job I had to make a collage of some rather obscure Latin-American snack-food and beverage logos requiring lots of extensive web searches. One brand was called Sensações, from Brazil. And like an idiot, in an open office environment, I naively Google image-search "Sensações Brazil." Then I leapt out of my seat with a yelp and hugged my monitor to cover it up. All I remember was an avalanche of big asses.
