@D(iL): Have you heard that one? Mrs Yeti and I listened to it and it really made us want to drink - so we did. It's a very effective album & a ton of fun to listen (and drink) to.

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
David (in London):

Yeti Bob - That's one of the great things about Cope (and I would probably say the same about Nick Cave, too): you can duck out for long stretches, but when you're ready, you can dive back in, hear lots of great new stuff, and remember all over again why you loved them in the first place. I've played loads of his stuff this summer after that gig.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

No, don't have that one, but that might soon need to be rectified...

Includes the song "As the Beer Flows Over Me" which he says he wrote for his own funeral, and the epic "On The Road to Tralee" (it's a very long road, because they keep stopping for another drink along the way). Mrs Yeti is not quite as big a Cope fan as I am, and she said "This is really good!"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm

Dividing the world neatly into countries is in fact a qualm I have about the series, but it is a good way of covering a lot of territory/ies as it were.

i thought so. always sounds like welsh spoken with a french accent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
David Dichelle:

Yes, Breton and Welsh are very closely related.
Avatar 🚂 1:00pm
YETI BOB:

This is reminding me of "Tuva-Irish live music project" by Sainkho Namtchylak and Roy Carroll ... haven't thought about that in a while. Is throat-singing traditional in Breton music or is this a cross-cultural influence?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Brian in UK:

I think it was Alan Stivell many years ago from the French North-West I remember hearing.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Handy Haversack:

Ooo, yeah, YB. I think this is the edition I have: external-content.duckduckgo.com...

I don't think I ever have read /We/!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
David (in London):

Brian, I was just about to mention Alan Stivell. Always been a big fan of his.
Avatar 🚂 1:04pm
YETI BOB:

@HH: That's the classic "psychological" cover, using some Max Ernst or other surrealistic artwork to suggest "modern" and "brainy".
Avatar 1:04pm
Will in Raleigh:

@yeti i'd say it's a cross-cultural influence in the case of this track, has a pretty fusiony feel in general. Though Irish & scottish mouth music/Puirt à beul does have some similarities with throat singing & i wouldn't be surprised if there's a similar tradition in brittany
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm

Are Klezmer bands the musical equivalent of Irish pubs?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Michael 98145:

@YETI BOB, that is wonderful!

( We probably have some of those books :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
David Dichelle:

Yes, I think that is a cross-cultural influence there, quite a few Breton groups like to mix traditional Breton sounds and other traditions.
Avatar 🚂 1:11pm

@Michael: I appreciate the attention to the small details, like "Zimmerman Books", etc.
