	8:54am YETI BOB: Well, at least according to Ian - people would keep canaries as pets - and they wanted to teach them to sing more beautiful songs, they wanted canaries to sound like (rarer) nightingales - somehow playing the desired song to the bird was supposed to "record" the song in the bird's brain. Also there are a lot of early gramophone records that are for training songbirds, Ian spun a bunch of these discs and tooted a bit on the recorder. Not clear that this worked at all. I don't know, maybe the whole thing was an art performance and all made-up! Cant' really find a good reference for this.

	8:54am YETI BOB: Well, at least according to Ian - people would keep canaries as pets - and they wanted to teach them to sing more beautiful songs, they wanted canaries to sound like (rarer) nightingales - somehow playing the desired song to the bird was supposed to "record" the song in the bird's brain. Also there are a lot of early gramophone records that are for training songbirds, Ian spun a bunch of these discs and tooted a bit on the recorder. Not clear that this worked at all. I don't know, maybe the whole thing was an art performance and all made-up! Cant' really find a good reference for this.
