We saw this line-up in concert 3 years ago. Retired White guy got up from audience to dance with them but basically fell over and the band members who he was trying to dance with had to help him back to his seat.. Wife just said “every event has the Sun Ra White guy.” Kids: don’t be the sun ra white guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am

I managed to see 2 gigs and 3 dance shows in the few weeks when these were allowed. Including one on the day of the new lockdown. It sucks, I'm afraid smaller venues and artists won't make it

haha @listener gregory. i was SO upset to have missed that sex mob show, only heard about afterwards. @doctorjazz apparently you cannot advertise live music shows in ny and must only be ‘incidental’ music, i think it how they refer to it. which i think was why they pulled the dates from the website. check out the falcon website and you can join their mailing list where they are able to send you the details and take reservations. they are still having the dine-while-you-eat arrangement, i think they are moving indoors at reduced capacity. as an aside, what a cool venue! never been there before

Camila Nebbia’s music is strong, and it’s true. Her compositions are carved out of wood, she knows how to lead a band, and when she plays the saxophone you can hear the whole world opening up to greet you. These days a lot of people are looking for something to believe in, looking for knowledge and peace, looking for something real. Camila Nebbia is the real thing. You can believe in her. I think for presidential elections it is very important to still vote even if you think your state is guaranteed to go for your candidate. Clinton narrowly won the popular vote, but if it happens that a candidate overwhelmingly wins the popular vote but loses the electoral college then reform becomes more possible. Of course need to get the senate on board for that as well.

If "Virelles" were on my grade roster on day one of in-person teaching, my policy is to pronounce it the American way first and then verify that it is correct. @DJpeter, I have tried to pronounce a student's name, asked if that was right, and the student has said, "Yeah, fine." Then if I ask the student to say the name, it turns out that I was wrong. It's very strange. They don't want to embarrass a teacher, I guess.

@Doc, quick scan of that Times article, i appreciate the caveats about the "compact" proposal (which is nowhere near to being adopted but a fascinating idea)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:25am
DJpeterDE:

@LG I answer to Feng and to Fung and I'm not bothered. I certainly understand why someone would want their name pronounced in a particular way and try to do that for them, but I myself don't care. (I'm saying: it's not just not embarrassing the teacher, but having made the decision that the time spent correcting you is not worth it.)

It's been around for a while, the same problem comes up, States that are considered "battleground" like the attention and power it gives them, hard to give up.

Canadian French is pronounced a little differently, less liaison and a little slower, I can sometimes recognize the words when they're spoken.

@LG: same here: students let teachers decide how their name should sound, out of fear. And teachers hate to be in that position!

Watched the (not very good, imo) Trial of the Chicago 7 movie and Abbie Hoffman played by Sasha Baron Cohen (with a terrible Mass accent) explains his last name in interesting fashion, on the stand.

Re: electoral college: someone told me last night tge rules are a bit different this time around in tgat a handful of states will change their electoral votes to the popular vote if its higher than the electoral count. And if/when that happens, to either side, im sure it will cause a shitstorm

There is actually some concurrence between good album art and good music. You can't bank on it, but there is some wisdom in judging an album by its cover. Although there's plenty of bad music in good covers, and v.v.
