Mr Fab:

When I was an adolescent first starting to suspect that there was a lot more out there then the usual “oldies,” “The ventures in Space” was a big album for me. That one and Yma Sumac’s “Voice of the Xtabay” were genius albums that sucked me into the world of mid-century oddities.

whyyy does nobody record anything even remotely like this now days tho?? You'd think there would be at least a few cool new halloween tracks every so often.. but nothing on these lines

first record I ever bought was a collection called "The monster mash" with purple people eater all that stuff on it!
Avatar 7:06pm
Fanggg-Rila:

still not totally the same though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Rich in Washington:

I think my first ever records bought just for me were halloween records as well, one of which that had a really inferior re-do of Monster Mash.
Avatar 7:09pm
Fanggg-Rila:

Was it the one Bobby Boris Pickett re-recorded?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Rich in Washington:

You know, I just now looked the record up on Discogs, and it does indeed say it was by Bobby Pickett, so you are probably correct.
Funny that my seven year old ears noticed that it wasn't the version I was accustomed to.

I may have this record in my kid record section. I think I found it and bought it again a couple of years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Rich in Washington:

I am guessing my mom bought mine at either Toy Chest or a drug store. I am pretty sure it was a birthday gift. Almost all my xmas and birthday gifts around that age were monster or horror related.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Rich in Washington:

My mom made me a really nice red and black Dracula cape but I was forbidden from wearing it out unless it was halloween. Stupid rules.
