HONK NYC! @ WFMU: Unidos do Swing & Nation Beat - NOLA/Brazil

The HONK NYC! festival. usually held in the second week of October, is inspired by the Boston-area's HONK! festival of activist street bands. With no in-person festival this year, HONK NYC! joined HONK! for the online festival HONK! United October 5-11. We follow that with performances from our own 2018 HONK NYC! Monty Hall show - by two bands that blend carnival sounds of New Orleans and Brazil: São Paulo's Unidos do Swing and New York's own Nation Beat. Nation Beat just released a great new album, The Royal Chase (on the Avocado Artists label) - we'll give you a taste of the album on this week's show as well.

WFMU and WFMU's Transpacific Sound Paradise denounce explicit and implicit racism; condemn the culture of white supremacy, which enables the brutalization of black people and other communities of color, and support Black Lives Matter and the movement it stands for.
