Hi Dan and fryers!

Hello! Time to pop open a cold Oktoberfest lager and groove on some deep fried vocals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Handy Haversack:

Richard S, sometimes you get lucky and there's one in the vocal basket that's been through the fryer two or three times!
Avatar 🍳 Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

So redboney!
  7:07pm
northguineahills:

Ok, that was weird. I went to interview a Census address and there was a rooster in the back yard. Who in suburbia has a rooster, unless they are involved in cock fighting (or possibly breeding chickens).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm
Handy Haversack:

Maybe they're breeding a cockatrice, ngh. You need a rooster egg for that. Did you notice a dunghill? Any patient toads?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
mariano:

Hey Dan, Crew, everyone.

ngh: Yardbirds can still be found in NOLA. Not common at all but now and then you hear people complaining about neighbors with one in their back yard. A few free-range ones running around in some of the parks too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Handy Haversack:

Sure, Mariano, that sounds a LOT more likely.

Did Big Basilisk get to you too?!
  7:15pm
moontana:

I still see cowboys sittin' on their horses out on the prairie yodeling up at the satellites in the skies at night out here in the Big Skype State, Montana.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
ultradamno:

Yodeling is a known symptom of prairie madness.

Derrida's high 'F' is amazing.

Yardbirds? Now I have Jimmy Page in my headZ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm

I would say yodeling takes a real stand in the sign vs. signifier gunfight.

Jordan in Buffalo:

You should read Jameson on Cowboy Yodeling; “Post-prairism: Or the cowboy contradiction of late manifest destiny”. Though some see Lyotard’s critique, inverting the yodel to the doodle, devastating.

Happy 250th Dan !

hey, Dan and folks. digging this yodel fest.

Congrats on 250, Dan!

I don’t know of any Fahey yodels per say, but he has done plenty of abverbal vocalizations many times, especially in the latter years. So, I’m my book, qualifies for vocal fry (source: I have all of his albums)

In my book....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm

You can't fight Big Basilisk. Just too powerful.
  7:28pm
Jordan in Buffalo:

Foucault’s “Yodeling as a subversive, conformist, system” strangely missing the biopolitics of yodeling, btw. A minor work.
  7:31pm
Jordan in Buffalo:

Haraway’s “The Cyborg Yodel”, however, remains a touchstone for all.
  7:32pm
northguineahills:

Jordan just gave me a flashback of my Foucault o seeded days in my 20s.

This Meg Whitman? en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm

isn't most of country music based on irish/scottish/english traditional music? i'd love to hear that link sometime. althought that isn't really vocal histryonics.

Some other worthwhile reads:

Adorno and Horkheimer: “The cultural cowboy industry: how we have forgiven hunting for corporate trapping”

Connel: “Yodel as power”; and “Trilling in the global south” (discusses both Lionel trilling and the African roots of the warbling yodeling sound)

deleuze and guattari: “Anti-yeeha”

Pickering: “Yodeling as tuning: the cowboy and the instrument”

And then, of course, Goddard’s “Cowboy Weekend”, which is basically a thirty minute track shot of a depraved wagon train.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
dale:

didn't me whitman run h.p. down the crapper and walk out with a huge golden parachute? i guess that's the american definition of success, as epitomized by our president.

@Jordan, you may get the crown for that one! :-)

Great show. I hope you don't mind if I add that IMHO the least confusing way to add all the frequencies to the station ID is just to say them right after the locations. Also the FCC likes it that way if I understand correctly. (But I admit it's been a long time.)
