Afel Bocoum  Dakamana   Favoriting Lindé  World Circuit  2020  Malian singer and guitarist began his career as a member of Ali Farka Touré's group ASCO, and Toure is often regarded as his mentor. Both men come from the town of Niafunke on the River Niger, and are members of the Sonrai people. Bocoum's group, Alkibar (the name means 'messenger of the great river' in Sonrai) consists of 2 acoustic guitars, a njarka (a one-string fiddle), a njurkle (a kind of lute), calabash and djembe percussion, & 2 female singers as well as male singers in the choruses. Bocoum is the lead vocalist. Bocoum uses music as a medium of communication, commenting on contemporary Malian society. Venting: An Italian friend has been stuck in Paris for a week. He teaches at Berkeley, was in Europe for work and got stopped at the airport and interrogated. He'd been careful and showed letters from Berkeley lawyers and the state dept. allowing him back in to the officer. She replied "I don't care, I'm immigration and they're not, no way you're going back". He's been couch surfing for a week, while his partner and kids are in SF wondering whether they'll be deported

@Sylvia: Teaching is remote, but there are conferences, and since he's a composer, premieres (he teaches electronic music at CNMAT). Agreed, I wouldn't have done it, but he sought and got ample backing. His mistake was thinking the State department had any weight in this administration

Fred was he carrying drugs bad breath CIA. I remember being frisked all time about 20 years ago I ended up always telling them In a sincere apologetic way I was homophobic ( which wasn’t true but worked ) Then female guards would then frisk me. They didn’t like it when I played with the situation I’m not a big fan of men’s thumbs pressing up against my testicles
In the end it worked Haven’t been frisked in 20 years Always for fun !

@Pabs: he has no clue, the denial isn't virus-related, it's about the H visa. He'd like to go to Italy and stay with family, but if he gets the go ahead from the US he has a short window to get to the Paris airport, and borders might be closed by then. Very stressful times for him

@ Long Hair posts - I have had long hair (on & off) for the last 30 years and just recently "had" to get it cut, as due to nerve damage in my right hand, I couldn't put it in a ponytail anymore and I was having to wake my wife up every morning to help - That didn't work well.....
