Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi Bronwyn! I love The Forbidden Zone music! I used this opening bit as a sample on my Mirage back inthe 80s. and "Pico and Sepulveda"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
Webhamster Henry:

There's supposedly a sequel in the works, slow going as usual.

Love Danny and the Forbidden Zone!

For once, work done, finished eating. Connected. I should get headphones so I can turn it up abd not disturb my partner who is still working.

I finally saw Forbidden Zone about a year ago. Fun.

Hi, Bronwyn and all!

A French Dracula that sounds a little like Jacque Brel. "Jacques Brel is undead and posessed and unliving in Transylvania"
Avatar 7:13pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

hi everyone :D
Avatar 7:13pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: He does sound like him!! That would be an amazing title for a Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well parody if someone did one for some reason

(says the woman who did an unauthorized rewritten version)
Avatar 🎭 7:14pm
Listener Gregory:

Good morning all. Unless it is some other time. I also thought Jacques Brel for a while.

That rain song is really scary.

@WR: It is, I've never seen that show so I have no idea what the context is but Jarrow's voice is...unsettling

What is the role of Alan Parsons in this? Can’t quite make it out on the record cover.
Avatar 7:22pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

that's def going in there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Cmurtha:

I'm glad I spooked up my icon here already.. AS IS MY TRADITION
Avatar 7:24pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Gregory: Parsons wasn't involved but Eric Woolfson was the other guy in the Alan Parsons Project and that's his album- the sticker says "from the creator and writer of the Alan Parsons Project"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Cmurtha:

Alan Parson's Project does have a very fun concept album built around poe too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Aww, this musical was one I grew up with. My parents had lots of soundtracks.
Avatar 🎭 7:29pm
Listener Gregory:

I think this is one of those songs written for a non-singer (Camelot).
Avatar 7:31pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

for some reason Alfred Drake (who played Curley) sings Lonely Room on this album, which leads me to wonder what on earth Howard da Silva's Lonely Room sounded like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Cmurtha:

a warsh out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Webhamster Henry:

Flahooley - a little dip into the Not Since Carrie repertoire.
Avatar 7:34pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Gregory: Lerner and Loewe did that a lot- My Fair Lady and Gigi also have male leads with speak-singing voices

There have been a number of nice Musical numbers stuck into TV shows over the past few years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm

Les Parapluies has been produced as a live opera, and that must be very nice.

i would love to see that!!

Got a feeling 21 is gonna be a tough year.
Avatar 8:19pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Gregory: alas silence the musical is 100% real- i know, because on a college trip to NYC, my one friend went to see it for like $5 while my other friend and i went to see phantom for $80, and i think the friend who saw silence had the better evening
Avatar 8:20pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: it will be better than 2020 :)
Avatar 🎭 8:35pm

You had to see Phantom so that the rest of us could skip it. Thank you for your service!

Rather stunned by Floyd Collins.
Avatar 8:50pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

floyd collins is beautiful!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Webhamster Henry:

Ace In The Hole is also worth looking up - loosely based on the same incident.
Avatar 🎭 8:55pm
Listener Gregory:

Awkward that the Notre Dame album cover shows it in flames (years before actual fire).
Avatar 8:57pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: I looked it up and that seems interesting- especially odd that it focuses on the reporter character and not the trapped guy
Avatar 🎭 8:58pm
Listener Gregory:

Excellent show tonight. I learned something, and it is difficult to get me to do that.
Avatar 8:59pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Gregory: Even more awkward is the Disney film which ends with the cathedral on fire and flames POURING OUT OF THE WINDOWS (although it doesn't burn down and is fine at the end??) they were going to make a live action version and now they probably can't which sucks because it has a beautiful score but is a deeply flawed movie and is one of the only ones that could really use a live action version
Avatar 8:59pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Gregory: what did you learn?? floyd collins?
Avatar 8:59pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

i luv to inspire learning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
Webhamster Henry:

It really points out the circus aspect and the contrast between the hoopla and the real human drama. People seeing it would have had the original incident it their minds, so the satire aspect of it would be more effective!
Avatar 9:00pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

going into OT tonight darlings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
Webhamster Henry:

Gonna do a show thats ALL HUNCHBACK ALL THE TIME?
Avatar 9:01pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I should!!!! There are sooooo many hunchback musicals but not a single one has ever been a real success, and still they try, those wacky composers and lyricists
Avatar 9:02pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I played a bunch of them right after the fire in this show: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm
Webhamster Henry:

Hey I guessed Candide's finale before you announced it! That and Eldorado are really something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm
Webhamster Henry:

Candide (at least the original) -- another proud Not Since Carrie musical!
Avatar 9:05pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

how did u guess??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

The Great Performances version with Patty LuPone and Kristin Chenoweth - with a cameo by "Donald Trump" - is also really fun
Avatar 🎭 9:06pm

Love Candide! If that’s the end, beautiful ending.
