Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Got connected during the muc break. Will go back to hear from the beginning. Particularly curious about the Disney tracks.
Avatar 7:38pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

the disney tracks are hilarious because the songs themselves (particularly beauty & the beast) are completely timeless but the pop productions are SO VERY 90S

Listened last week's show in the archive, went down worm hole reading about Fame which I've not seen, none of the versions.

I only like the tv show!

I don't remember Burt Reynolds singing this, though now I am having odd childhood flashbacks to an angel dog being seduced.

Hello everyone
Avatar 7:43pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I never saw this one but I'm intrigued by it. Why did they get CHARLES STROUSE to write the LYRICS??
Avatar 7:43pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

They should have gotten Howard Ashman to compose the music and Marvin Hamlisch to write the screenplay while they were at it
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
WR:

I didn't realize that Burt Reynolds did many musicals.
Avatar 7:45pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

between that and At Long Last Love he was practically a song and dance man!
Avatar 7:46pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

this song encapsulates my approach to radio and to life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Cmurtha:

I suppose this is "older" though by kid movie standards the early 90s are history. If its as old as I am its old now.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
WR:

What i see on wikipedia says Strouse wrote the lyrics to just a few of the songs on the dog / heaven film.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
WR:

Which song Bronwyn? Trash?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Cmurtha:

I suspect that ADGTH does not hold up, but I watched it all the time when I was wee boy. It's Don Bluth so it's beautifully animated but I suspect plot wise it is probably a touch too dark for very small children, but a bit odd and sacrine for older folks. But, I could be wrong, An American Tale held up more than I thought it would.

At last a song about Philadelphians!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:56pm

Actually, I can see Burt Reynolds playing the Tramp
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
WR:

Richard M. Sherman singing? Was that in the movie or an extra on the soundtrack?
Avatar 8:07pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@WR: Yes I Love Trash is my motto
Avatar 8:07pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Cmurtha: That's what it sounds like based on what I've read and heard of it...a dog getting murdered is hella dark, but that album cover is incredibly saccharine so I'm terribly confused...but I should get around to watching it since Don Bluth is great
Avatar 8:08pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@diciasette: The Philly thing is why I played that song, I'm from Philly and was terribly excited that our rich people got their very own Disney song
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
diciassette:

Bless you for playing Helen Reddy/Pete's Dragon. Also Pooh! These are songs I'd forgetten I'd forgetten
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
Cmurtha:

The darkest scene I can remember as a kid is there is like (maybe 8?) minute long moment where Charlie gets chased by demons as he sinks on Charon's boat in lava. If you like Bluth go for it, since I only remember bits and bobs about it. Like I remember how Charlie get's murdered, so that must have been impactful enough. There is also a (cross dressing?) Giant alligator that sings a song.

You mentioned in last week show that this week you would be doing show live, did that work out? All is going smooth with the levels and segues.

I always liked the way Joseph delivered the bad news in this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm

Joseph acting like he's not communing with the fregin divine, NOBODY LIKES FALSE MODESTY JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE BAD NEWS JOSEPH/
Avatar 8:17pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@diciassette: I used to watch the Pooh movies over and over as a kid, I would sing "I'm Just a Little Black Raincloud" <3
Avatar 8:17pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@WR: No this is not live, I'm sorry for not delivering :( I thought I could get it live by the following week but it's more difficult than I thought. But I am working on it!!

I saw Yentil in the theaters when I was 7. My mother took me some mature movies as a kid (my father took me to the R - rated ones, but they wouldn't do so w/ my younger brothers when they became my age, for obvious reasons).

I saw Lil Abner when I was about 8 years old. Only fragments of memories but while I enjoyed reading the comic strip did not like the movie. Wonder if a revisit to Dogpatch is worth trying.

Fun fact about this song Audra is singing: The music was written by the writer of my favorite industrial musical song ever, UP CAME OIL!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

Always liked Slim Whitman but don't have much by him. I loved how his voice became a major plot point in Mars Attacks.

@WR: That's how I found out about him. An older hot girl from my church youth group was driving me to the lake, and pointed out to me, "That's Slim Whitman's house", thankfully I just watched Mars Attack.
