Très cool. Did not know (or forgot) of Evans session with Woody Herman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm

Woody did two albums at Cadet produced by Evans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm

At one point they were released as a budget two-fer, which isn't hard to find

Last summer I was down in Baltimore and I had a Natty Bo shandy with Old Bay seasoning on the rim of the glass. It sounds weird but it was a delight.
Avatar 3:48pm

they call that the Crab Shack Shandy yeah?

haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Funky16Corners:

I forget if it had a name, but it was tasty
Avatar 3:54pm
SquigY0:

that is a very lovely beer. i forget about it every year until I see it again and excitedly squee like a teenage girl. The old bay on the rim is overkill, especially if you're eating it with crabs. ;)

Flying Dog also has an Old Bay beer which actually doesn't taste like Old Bay, just salty spices
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
WR:

The mix on the Soulful Strings (at least on (I Know) I'm Losing You)) was weird, like a channel was missing or something. Several instruments sounded off mic. Curious. Got out my headphones to check what I was hearing. I wish it would Rain and next one seems ok. Just that one selection. I'm surprised they would release it sounding like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Funky16Corners:

My summer fave is the Narragansett/Del's Shandy. I drank my last one last night, so I have to stock up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Funky16Corners:

@WR - I didn't hear that. It's taken from my copy of the LP. I'll have to re-listen after the show
Avatar 3:58pm
northguineahills:

I grind up some dried shrimp, put in some clamato, a negro modelo, some freshly squeezed lime, some habanero sauce, some tequila, and line the rim w/ tajin (lime/chili/salt)
Avatar 3:58pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Little Danny:

Sounded okay to me. Some of these Cadet stereo LPs have extreme channel separation that can a weird, almost phased effect when you listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Funky16Corners:

@NGH - That sounds amazing!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
WR:

Am listening on my phone (which is 80% of my WFMU listening). Will give it a listen on my PC and phone from the archive. Nothing major, just a point of curiosity.

And i will be looking out for the Herman Cadet sessions. Interesting mix of musicians and styles.

Groove on.
Avatar 4:08pm

All I heard was warped audio from the vinyl. Sorry I left. I had to eat dinner.

I appreciate you naming a bunch of the other now-obscure soul/pop strings from the time. Such an interesting and ephemeral pocket of the easy-listening market that I have lasting fondness for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm

I did a mix at Funky16Corners a while back that compiled a lot of those soul strings things.

@ngh best corpse reviver for me is a Bloody Mary (Larry!) The day before our wedding we were up until 4 drinking whisky with old friends. The vodka brought me to a place of contentment prior to the vows. Thirty five years and still happening.

Larry, in lieu of playing Old Man last week I played Forever Changes yesterday. It reminded me how wonderful and under appreciated were David Angel's arrangements. Without them it would have had much less impact.
