Celebrating the birthday of the shamefully under-recognized jazz trumpeter Kenny Dorham, born 96 years ago today. Sweet, earthy, often gentle tones set this jazz great apart from the other greats. He played with Bird and Diz, Bud and Monk, on through modern up-and-comers Joe Henderson, Andrew Hill and Clifford Jordan. A birthday tribute to a first-class composer, mentor, and leader.
