Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

I'll admit it: in 1976 or '77, in thrall to punk rock, I sauntered into the Harvard Coop, a big department store in Harvard Square, made my way to the customized t-shirt department, and picked out a blank gold-colored shirt. I then selected the black block letters that I wanted to be heat-transferred onto that shirt: D-I-S-C-O S-U-C-K-S. Ultimately the shirt didn't get much use, though that was more because my Mom didn't care for the language. Fast forward a few years and I'm in New York City in the summertime, between semesters at NYU. I still love punk and its offshoots, but listening to Ken "Spider" Webb and Ricky Ricardo and, of course the Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker on WBLS has made me realize the folly of that t-shirt. And now every summer I start itching to play my favorite records from that era (give or take a few years) -- favorites I loved back then, and new favorites that I never heard back in the day. In that spirit, I'm excited to bring you the 12th annual Evan "Funk" Davies Show Disco and/or Dance Party! It's three hours of classic dance and disco jams from the '70s and early '80s, plus some lost shoulda-been-hits that just might become your new faves. Hook up the disco ball, pull your rug back and turn up the volume. It's the original socially distant dance party! Everybody's dancin', everybody's on the beat, and there ain’t no stoppin' us now! ======================================= Disco/dance disclaimer! I'm keeping the lines blurry and using "disco" and "dance" as catch-all terms for my own take on fun dance music from the mid-70s to the early '80s, expanding the boundaries (and sound) of the traditional disco era. Get Down Tonight, now i REALLY feel like i am back in high school!
college too -- i was at Douglass/Rutgers, where i was the lone "punk" in the midst of Disco and Bruce-Springsteen-Land . . . & i can totally relate, never had the "DISCO SUCKS!" t-shirt (& i think much of my "negativity" stemmed from sheer overkill; nothing BUT BRUCE and DISCO where i was) -- but i grew to really love and appreciate this music once i had some distance :)

for real, i never grew much after 8th grade -- SO much of my stuff still fit me well into the 90s, early 2000s -- but eventually they all wore out :(
(my Depression Era/Fresh Off The Boat parents saved EVERYTHING and made sure my younger sister and i took good care of our clothes b/c they would NOT buy us new stuff)

If you’ve enjoyed playing these tunes half as much as we have enjoyed listening to them, then we will have enjoyed them twice as much as you.

All my superstars on the WofMoo!
We used to go to the How club on St.Marks
That where we learned about this music and how to not be a wall flower.
We also went to the World occasionally

Granted, my great fondness for Pseu's show is hearing her talk around technical difficulties. Its quite liberating.
