fred: The area is named after Bernard de Marigny, the spendthrift son of a Creole planter whose estate included this are and more. He was educated in Paris and is credited by some with introducing the game of craps to the US, which he apparently learned in France. He more or less gambled away his vast inheritance, forcing him to sell off land in parcels, creating the Faubourg Marigny, NOLA's first suburb (though now very much in the middle of the city).

I’m just hearing Michael Rother for the first time and am familiar with the more well known 70’s bands. And would like a primer on krautrock. Any good compilations, resources and history suggestions from this comment world?

been lurking -- @ Brian in New Orleans, @ mariano, @ Jason from Houston -- glad to hear Hurricane Laura will not be hitting y'all . . . HAH! re: the Hurricane cocktail -- "everyone drinks them here!" an old friend told me when she visited NOLA in the mid-1980s -- she was doing all the obvious/tourist-y stuff; i was kinda glad that i was not along for the ride
