When those Thai kids were trapped in that watery cave, which came damned near becoming their watery grave, Musk was babbling on uselessly about mini submarines. It actually took a couple of highly skilled divers, who managed to effect the rescue. That was a classic corrective to the tech myth, there no substitute for a skilled, brave person with a desire to help others in the physical world.

Yup, I still say Pournelle was laying it on thick to troll, but basically believed all that stuff might be appropriate. Note that from the early '80s on he was on one or two 'defence' advisory boards.

As an example, I'd say that he would firmly deny being racist, but blame their culture and White Liberals for making those black people the bad guys not up to Saving the World.
