With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

August 16, 2020: FOREVEREVANS!
It's a super extendo-birthday party for the great pianist Bill Evans! On sonic display will be many of his masterful trio performances along with a multitude of other killer sessions. Joining the fun will be jazz writer and NY Times editor Peter Keepnews. (He's the son of Riverside Records legend Orrin Keepnews, who promoted and produced Evans for many years). He’ll talk about the music and spin a few yarns, as well as DJ a couple of sets. Come on in the Club and plan to stay for a while!

Marc Myers at Jazz Wax has a fascinating if harrowing four-part interview with Laurie Verchomin, Bill Evans' girlfriend during his final years. The description of Evans' descent and demise is not for the faint of heart, but it is stark and unforgettable. Just like his music.

"At the moment if I could have the jazz piano skills of whomever I wanted, I would want to have those of Bill Evans. This recording must be the best thing he has done. An infrequent recorder, Evans enhances his efforts with their scarcity. At 31, Evans is one of jazzdom's most brilliant performers. Scott LaFaro on bass and drummer Paul Motian fill out the trio. Superb recording."
Not a word about LaFaro's passing. I'd guess Hanna had no idea.
