I don't really like the blues, but I love this show. And I don't really love country and westerm ,but I love Becky's show. What does it all mean.

Hi Hi Hi! Thanks for being here as we bid fare well to the best British blues guitarist, best Jewish blues guitarist, and indubitably the best British Jewish blues guitarist of all time

Mom: Willy, could you please turn that godawrful music DOWN!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Matt Fiveash:

What a fuckin rhythm section. No wonder the band is named after them

If Peter Green and Mike Bloomfield had a fight who would win?

John F. The listeners would.

Then play on may have been the peak but it's all beyond comparison. Did he do harp too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Matt Fiveash:

I believe that's him on harp, yes.

Kvetchin’ Mo Herman:

I could complain, but this show is very nice…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Matt Fiveash:

John! Tough call. Bloomfield would have that cornered animal junkie energy. I wouldn't wanna tangle with him
  7:22pm
Nate K.:

I have to confess to being somewhat ignorant of the Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, but your comments on their rhythm section really reframe Buckingham/Nicks-era gloss-rock hits like "Monday Morning" and "Secondhand News," both of which I like.

Same Nate K. No shame

Sweet Corn Lizzie:

This is great! So fun to play this era F'wood for younger people and challenge them to guess the band. But where is my copy of Then Play On??

Gotta go to a meeting but will be back to hear the archive. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

From some obit for Green: "In a testament to his influence on the British blues movement, legendary guitarist BB King once said of Green: “He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats.”"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
ultradamno:

I like Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight...more of a Spencer showcase, but still.
  7:28pm
Lothianman:

Fighting for Madge not necessarily blues but PHENOMENAL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Matt Fiveash:

PG knew he had the best rhythm section in all the land; that's key to what made them so great:
“Peter was asked why did he call the band Fleetwood Mac. He said, ‘Well, you know I thought maybe I’d move on at some point and I wanted Mick and John (McVie) to have a band.’ End of story, explaining how generous he was,” said Fleetwood, who described Green as a standout in an era of great guitar work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Matt Fiveash:

Yeah I love the Spencer stuff too! Best fake Elmore James of all time by a mile. And Earl Vince & the Valiants! Best record ever, possibly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
coelacanth∅:

i personally think Paul Kossoff is up there- maybe not quite with Green but in the same ballpark; and free was a great band...though not a "brit bluesrock" band, but with a blues vibe throughout whatever they did.
  7:31pm
Lothianman:

Got it loose!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
coelacanth∅:

he also chose Kirwan because Kirwan was great. a lot of people would've chosen someone with an idea of a "secondary" guitar -so they stay the main focus. he just wanted to make great music.
  7:34pm
Nate K.:

I think "English Rose" is the only record I have from that era, so I'm sure I'm missing a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Matt Fiveash:

Yeah, the more I read about P.G. the more I like him.
  7:35pm
Nate K.:

Percy Mayfield deserves a posthumously awarded fancy literary prize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Matt Fiveash:

And Nate- yeah I'm still catching up too. Seems there's a lot of live bootleg stuff... did you hear that insane 15-minute jam that Ira opened his show with last night?
  7:39pm
Nate K.:

I did! It definitely piqued my interest.

Hoping PG doesn't hog all the tribute time tonight and that the show ends w/Alley Cat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Matt Fiveash:

Ira- I'll do the Bent Fabric tribute in two weeks for the diehards who are still wracked with grief...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
Chop Scott:

Cheers Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Matt Fiveash:

Also Ira- you are one of like 10 people who will appreciate this, but for me one of the greatest disappointments of the cancelled 2020 hoof & mouth was not playing Alley Cat behind Billy Jam who was going to perform "Bananas" by Chris Elliott (from his Marlon Brando schtick from the Letterman show). Now it can be told!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Matt Fiveash:

Anyway thanks all! I'll be seeing you. Duane will be monitoring your behavior next week, so no horsing around! See you on August 12...
  7:56pm
Ira:

I think me and my horn were supposed to be a part of that. (Just noticed that Bent Fabric has a song called "Boom Boom," too much to hope that it's a John Lee Hooker cover.)
