Dean:

I'm not finding any of the Bob Florence records I have on Discogs, nor do I find an obit in LAT. But I do find a story from Oct. 3, 1996, that opens:

About 35 years ago, Bob Florence wrote an arrangement of Thelonius Monk's classic blues tune "Straight, No Chaser." The late critic Leonard Feather played a recording of the work for Monk in the course of doing a piece for Down Beat magazine titled "The Blindfold Test," and the revered composer-pianist was quite pleased.

"It was crazy. It sounded so good, it made me like the song better," Monk said in the magazine article. "I'd say it was top-notch."

What Hyde said. Both Jasons had issues this week, for a moment I thought the stream had crashed

Tiptoeing into the Maestro, as there are many at the station who will do, and have done, outstanding tribute shows.

Since there's some room in the statuary real estate now, what about a John Zorn statue somewhere? He'd probably hate that so much he'd release a dozen records a month. Win!

Everybody in every field just took Morricone for their own. Listening to Devon's & Fabio's tributes made me realize how fully equal he was to any Director.
