Hey old time listeners, if any of you are interested in one of the greatest songs WFMU (and WNEW) played between tracks as a seque, that Barry 7's Connectors album that Scott spoke about has the unforgettable track "Motivi Psichedelici" by Daniele Patucchi. Once you hear it, it'll take you back to 1967-'69 as it was used extensively as a "connector" of songs. Check it out and trip yourself back in time. Enjoix!

Same here Handy - my first thought was that it was a new project from one of the CocoRosies, amazing it came out in '68.

CDToaster: I'm really enjoying the old FMU anecdotes. I'm a relative newby, only been listening since '98, became aware of FMU in '94 while living on the West Coast and having a roommate with the catalog.

@Revolution: You're so right, back then as kids we played with anything we could get our hands on to create something exciting without much money. They were very inventive days, for sure. These kids today - what a shame. They can't know the joy of building something with their hands out of nothing that astonishes an audience. Thanks for commenting.

@Mariano: Thanks for the comment. While on the air at FMU, I was asked what have I noticed that changed about FMU over the past 50 years I've been listening, and you know what? I couldn't answer because other than the technological advances, little (in my opinion) has changed. The best DJs, the best music, and the best listeners. How do you improve on perfection? FMU was #1 from day 1 when Vin Scelsa basically built the station. I owe FMU my life 'cause music saved me many times. My love of FMU goes beyond words.

What I wonder about is how much continuity there is between WFMU now & Back Then. The schedule changes of a season & it's perceived as a trauma sometimes. Is there something recognizable that has persisted over that long?

@Revolution: In answer to your question, from acid recollection, the continuity was an industry standard, with the DJ hosts changing spots and new ones coming aboard, but back then there were a lot of newbies who were listeners becoming hosts, just like today, but maybe more so, in other words, perhaps a bigger turnover as it was a wide open field and the station was prone to giving anyone showing potential a start. Heck, I was only 14 years old, so I had no chance at becoming "part" of anything - I couldn't even contribute since I was in school without an income, but I spread the word at every opportunity. Anyway, the schedule changes and seasons were common events and yes, it was sad to see a regular DJ change his spot or go bush. Same as today. Thanks for your question.

The day before yesterday, I got off a plane from Fresno, California where I attended my daughter's wedding in 115 degree heat. The trip home with the mask taught me this trick: The flight attendants won't force you to wear a mask if you're eating so I took a large bag of chips on the plane (Party Size!) and munched on 'em through the flight. It was a good idea to avoid the mask IF you're one of those who are immune or who for whatever reason prefer to unmask yourself. Just a little way around the mandate.
