Favoriting June 23, 2020: TERENCE BLANCHARD (composer of Spike Lee films)
Composer/jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard discusses his scores for Spike Lee's Netflix Vietnam war drama "Da 5 Bloods" and Tim Van Patten's HBO series "Perry Mason," the soundtracks for which will be available from Milan Records and WaterTower Music, respectively. Terence performed on Spike's soundtracks since 1988's "School Daze," scoring the majority of them since 1991's "Jungle Fever," including 2018's Oscar-nominated "BlacKkKlansman." He grew up in New Orleans with Wynton and Branford Marsalis before joining Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1980s and releasing over 20 albums as a bandleader or co-bandleader. if this gentleman wrote the main theme to Bamboozled, and i believe he did, he is a genius.

slugluv1313:

i really really hope you are right, geezerette -- i remember how horrible cops were in the 60s, 70s -- bashing heads, getting away with murder -- and NOW i am wondering, how is it possible that cops have gotten WORSE?!?

Loving the interview and the music. Spike Lee is a genius. Used his films in teaching and students always respond. Not always happily, but thoughtfully. The music/score is important in all of his films. Will watch this film soon.

GORGEOUS

Him saying that about testing, and not for the first time, makes perfect sense if you accept that he prioritizes his political advantage over mass numbers of lives.

Hey, Slugluv! I don't think cops have gotten worse; I've had some shocking experiences in L.A., decades apart. Everything is more visible now though.
I mean what I said above.
Never felt what's happening now, very encouraging.

Devon, thanks for bringing Mr. Blanchard!!!
Thank you, Mr. Blanchard!!!
