yep, gonna try to sort out this mess of an apartment today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
listener james from westwood:

Good luck, annie! I managed to take apart some of the pandemic-detox spots in the apartment last week, and to throw out all sorts of packaging trash and junk mail I hadn't wanted to touch, and it's been such a balm to the soul having that floor space back.

Hey doctorjazz, Granny and gongoleer! Glad to have you here!Granny, I saw Moses Sumney open for someone at Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect Park a few years ago. He totally blew me away! Just got his new album, which is amazing too

hey sean in bristol! It was inspiring seeing the footage of Bristolians sinking the statue of Colston!

Hi! Front page of wfmu.org — the list of streams looks messed up — doesn’t put the “live DJ” tag on ya (Firefox, Chrome on a desktop, also Safari browser on iPhone).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

that happened to me, too, and Ichiban is gone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi Sean, Malcolm, alanr and Anonymous 7! Thanks for letting me know about the homepage issue. I'll let someone know now.
  12:52pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Malcolm, yes it was, Bristol has a troubled history concerning slavery and Edward Colston was amongst many a major culprit in the the crime of all crimes. The district of Clifton was built on the proceeds of this despicable event. There are two streets in Clifton that pays homage and I mean that in the negative way, Blackboy Hill and Whiteladies Road
  12:54pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

That was what confused me, I thought you were not on Irene, deep despair what the state of the day until by chance I clicked on the app
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I do deeply love and respect Nina Simone and she is hitting the spot these days. I'm surprised i don't hear Odetta on WFMU more often.
  12:56pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

We were in town taking my pup in for a make over and we passed the pedestal where Mr Colston once stood. That and a chunk of concrete was all that was left
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Wow, Sean, thanks for sharing that glimpse into history—and the changes!
Avatar 12:59pm
Listening Out There:

@Sean: There's a good column in The Guardian today about the statue. Guess one protester even put a knee on the statue's neck before it was tossed into the water...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Irene Trudel:

Wow, Sean! Pretty amazing that these protest are reaching everywhere in the world. It's really time for overdue change. Granny, thanks for the suggestion. I might be persuaded to play something by Odetta.
  1:03pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Sometimes I feel we owe as a former colony, along with France, Spain, Portugal a huge apology for screwing up the continent of Africa for past crimes
  1:05pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

I mean a colonial power
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i really do hope this is the tipping point, i hope we can keep the momentum
  1:08pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Its time to point fingers, shame on the European powers of the last four centuries
  1:08pm
Anonymous 7:

That Guardian article was really enlightening and I wonder if tossing that statue “overboard” was meant as further symbolism. Good move, well-deserved.
Avatar 1:10pm
Malcolm:

hopefully the cecil rhodes statues in oxford and elsewhere will come down next
  1:11pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Would I be right in saying the UK backed the Confederates because of a) the cotton supply would be in jeopardy and b) we were still sore losers about losing the colonies
Avatar 1:13pm
Malcolm:

I live in the outskirts of manchester and people are raising questions about the statue of Robert Peel we have here, who opposed the abolition of slavery. He also formed the modern police force (hence 'the bobbies') so has a lot to answer for!
Avatar 1:13pm
gongoleer:

@Irene. Have you ever heard of Stuart Leiderman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm

gongoleer, no I haven't heard of him.
