Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Hey, everyone made it back home. Rains opened up as we hit our block. We went to a vigil and march. REALLY weird to be around so many people.
Good too, though.
More walking than I'm now used to, too!

how did i miss that???
saw him in 1983 -- Irving Plaza, i think (and his first show in the States?)
then with Lucky Dube -- 2002 i think?
he did a reading at Hue-Man Books for "Mi Revalueshanary Fren" -- incredible, so powerful, moving, motivating

@Jake, no from McCarren Park. We walked down Union as far as Broadway. I think that some people were maybe going farther, but as soon as we passed the precinct right before Bway, maybe 15, 20 cop cars came out to follow the group. Not sure if people were pressing on.
We still aren't feeling up to riding the subway (maybe that's stupid after all the people we were around today, though MOST were masked), so we peeled off at Bway and started walking back north.
Pretty clearly the cops are treating North Brooklyn A LOT different from other parts of the city, no way around that one. The Greenpoint precinct was not even particularly militarized.
The crowd, while in many ways very "new Brooklyn" was also passionate and angry and restrained and focused.
MAN, this is good stuff, efd!

FWIW, limiting my political blathering posts to focused stuff as of late to avoid rabbit hole discussions and unwanted “@” replies.

But I was in high school in 1982, when The Message was everywhere, and I could feel things changing in the wrong direction after Reagan was elected. I‘m a white male, so I haven’t borne the brunt of the reactionary wave, but I do feel like maybe this is a real inflection point, and maybe things will really change now.

As a former photojournalist, I’m very curious, by so far have steered clear. However, we’re seeing what we can do to give a journalistic voice to the people in the street, via my friend, who is committed to their decentralized structure. Wish us luck!
