Larry I’ve been to Helen’s. It’s about an hour NE of downtown Memphis. She’s one of the only female pit masters in the South. Really good BBQ. Looking forward to the show. See you soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Had the wrong Helen’s apparently. Oops. There was one in Oakland that had a relationship with The East Bay Dragons who I suspect are the guys in the photo.

Testify Rev. Grogan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Found a higher resolution version of that photo and “Testify” is blocking the Dragons’ patch on the back of a jacket.

WR! Prepare for liftoff!

Post Jimi based on the release date I’m guessing

I think Curtis was living in Europe at that point, and all of his recordings with Hendrix were from NYC

Such a different sound than Huey & the Clowns or even his solo stuff not long before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Funky16Corners:

That record is pretty much Eddie Bo. Curley only contributes the spoken intro on the other side
Avatar 3:28pm

That sucks Larry. Hope you can find ways to cool off so you don't pass out.

This stuff resonates. This week was remarkably similar to the years this stuff came out. Social explosions. Glimmers of hope for change. Uncertainty. Frustration. New ideas. Old clampdowns. I'm only Windexing the windowpane now though, not eating it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks zzz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Funky16Corners:

@Matt - There's even an Atlanta 45 from a few years later by a guy named Alley Pat called "Pat's Rubber Band" that references the Meters record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Why not try to jump on the bandwagon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It makes more sense when one is a hit but we’ve both seen plenty of examples that weren’t
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I don't know how much of a bandwagon there was to jump on, but the same thing happened with 'Funky Belly' records, of which there are a couple in New Orleans and Mississippi

Trying to hear your show Larry but that George Floyd funeral is on TV now. All I hear is "every praise".

Was wondering about Curley Moore and the Kool Ones and ggle brought me to funky16corners.wordpress.com...

The Shelly Pope rant? It was something he did so there may be several recordings. Someone that lived in NOLA in the 80s played for me a recording of Pope on the radio, one version of it, in the 80s. I don't know if they still have a copy or if it is the same source as what UM used.

I was not aware or had forgot about this E Rodney Jones jam. Adds extra resonance since we were just talking about Shelly Pope. Although I don't know if they have anything else in common, besides the profession of radio personality.

Someone told me today there are Floyd tribute bands out there that replicate the sound of the music exactly. I surely had my years of enjoying me some Pink, but I'd have no interest in attending such a performance.

This is such an amazing album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm

Hey sbp! There are a couple of Floyd copy bands that tour around. Note for note.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm

I think one of them is from Australia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Funky16Corners:

I think that's the one that was on PBS
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
WR:

s b/p there are two aspects of bands touring playing Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason put together a band that toured and played mostly music from the first two albums. Then there are some that are fans, one from Australia that has gotten international attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Funky16Corners:

I'd love to hear that Nick Mason configuration!

Confining the Floyd setlist to first couple of albums would narrow down the interest substantially, I'd think. And maybe for the better, as far as those fans might be concerned. Whole different audience from what a Moon/Wish/Animals party would draw, for instance.
