I've heard that "we wanna be free...and get loaded" sampled somewhere. Was it used in a Man or Astroman? song?
  12:25pm JakeGould:

@efd: Thanks! My head is spinning from the past week so I completely forgot where I first saw that. And of course — in typical WFMU fashion — Joe’s social media hipped me to something that I am now somehow sharing on his own playlist.

Hi Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm efd:

Ringo is the only Beatle I've ever been in the same room with.
  12:47pm JakeGould:

Brainstormed a great idea with some of my co-workers on Zoom last week… Do a screen capture of video of you — full screen — at a Zoom meeting just sitting there and occasionally blinking. And then load that as a looped background for your next Zoom meeting but don’t sit in front of the camera. Et viola, you are “present.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Woo:

I've never seen Ringo live (I did see Dark Horse George) but years ago in Chicago he came out of his hotel to give everybody the peace sign on his birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Gaylord Fields:

That’s right: J&P went to Paris, where they met up with Hamburg pal Jürgen Vollmer, who transformed their greasy quiffs into rock & roll history.

@efd: If you count Pete Best, and you don’t count music venues, I’ve been in the same room with two Beatles drummers. And I somewhere have a recording of Ringo saying my name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Woo:

Pete Best counts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Gaylord Fields:

I’ve also been in the same room with three Rutles (all but Dirk)!

For $20 he'll send you a Mystery Box, which came today, and it's 5 12" and a bunch of 7"'s, all kinds of shoegaze and indie stuff. But what's cool is I got a random LCD Soundsystem 7" single that I've never heard before and I'm so stoked!

I usually ignore phone calls from numbers I don't recognize, but I absent-mindedly, unfortunately, half-awake, answered the phone this morning, and it was "my" NJWell health coach, who said I have to go outside and get some exercise, so I guess I have to, because I said I would.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm McGroovey:

I saw Gateway Drugs opening for...who? Swervedriver? Yes. I'd never heard of them, and I ran right own and bought the record. Or maybe I bought it right there at the show. I love the first Swervedriver album, liked the last Swervedriver album, and then I loved the first Gateway Drugs album.

One of the things that is wrong with America is that the piece of shit who is in charge of the policeman's union in Minneapolis claims that "diverting funds to community activists with an anti-police agenda" as opposed to the actions of his force is what caused rioting. And that the four cops should have never been fired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Gaylord Fields:

I appreciate this set, Joe. So many WFMU DJ's, show hosts, and listeners have been allies in this struggle against race-based oppression. And I wish I could answer the Relatives' question, but this is only a three-hour show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm McGroovey:

I loved the "horrible" You Keep Me hanging On cover, actually.
  2:30pm JakeGould:

Said this before and I will say it again: Somehow this nation can’t afford proper PPE for healthcare workers so they are using duct tape and garbage bags but at every single one of these protests you have cops in full on riot gear as if they are about to fight Batman or something.

Past the obvious actions that started all of this — ie: a man being murdered because he supposedly passed a counterfeit $20 bill — that says a lot about this countries priorities.

Endless budget for brutality everywhere. No budget for basic care in the “greatest” country in the world.
  2:31pm JakeGould:

@OtherJoe: Nope! I seem to recall Pseu Braun invoking the image/concept of that “Not Me!” ghost that always showed up when cookie jars or windows were broken.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Crudbringer:

"Fiscal conservatism" is about saving money in the short run, not the long run. Why are the New York and Arizona state capital buildings leased? Why did Chicago "outsource" their parking meters?
  2:41pm JakeGould:

@Crudbringer: I’m more interested in the militarization of U.S. police forces which starts with the idea that local police forces “save money” by accepting literal surplus weapons of war so they can “police” the population.

We go to war and destroy Iraq, but then when we don’t need those weapons anymore we give them to the Mayberry police department so Barney Fife can “light it up” on residential streets?

Nivram! Priceless. Perfect timing now that I'm missing Spain so much. Your show is the perfect form of escapism. Great music as always. GRACIAS.
