With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

"There will be a benefit for Jo Jones, the drummer with the original Count Basie orchestra, who has influenced two generations of drummers, beginning tomorrow night at 8 and running until 4 A.M. or so at Swing Plaza, Irving Place at 15th Street. Mr. Jones has been ill for some time, and the proceeds will help pay his medical expenses.
Max Roach, one of Mr. Jones's most devoted followers, who has been demonstrating Mr. Jones's techniques as part of his own performances for years, will be the host for the evening.
Among other drummers who will pay tribute to Mr. Jones are Panama Francis, Andrew Cyrille, Mel Lewis, Bob Moses, Freddie Waits, Roy Haynes, Billy Higgins, Philly Joe Jones and five-eighths of M'Boom, the percussion octet.
Also performing will be Gerry Mulligan, Doc Cheatham, Gary Bartz, Cedar Walton, Jaki Byard, Jon Hendricks, Johnny Hartman, Walter Davis, Charles Davis, Connie Crothers and Jeanne Lee. The performance will be videotaped so that it can be shown to Mr. Jones."
