A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

@magda I read they intentionally do small parking lots. There are a few here and there in strip malls/shopping centers so the parking lot is 90% less stressful, but those standalone stores are hell

@TDK60: True. But also am concerned because in a few places I have been in while in Brooklyn the workers are genuinely either high functioning adults or people who 100% don’t speak any English. Not every place, but a few of them.

People need help right now, indeed. I've been making a conscious effort to tip every time I go to the grocery store (which ain't that often but still) as well as pre-paying or buying gift certificates for restaurants, my barber, etc., which I will use at a later date. They need the cash flow NOW and I know I will take advantage of their goods and services anyway, just not right now.

@Trevor: Everyone is using different stuff. No one DJ is doing it the same way. It boils down to a real microphone and a real mixing board and multiple input devices like turntables, CDs or laptops.

It would be better suited for a blog post or something; not a DJ break.

  11:51am
JakeGould:

I lied… Each DJ is assigned a passenger pigeon with a USB flash drive. The pigeon heads back to WMFU HQ and the job of the skeleton crew is to grab the USB flash drive and insert that into the “on air” computer and plays it.

For DJs who mainly play 45s there are 4-5 pigeons assigned.
