In going back through my CDs (and all of these recent shows are pre-recorded, after the archive shows interlude), I find that a not-insignificant number of musicians seem to either have stopped recording, or their work has yet to post to Discogs, or isn't on Bandcamp, or the group disbanded in short order and/or with a small output, or perhaps they stopped trying to pursue music as a career. There is a chance that there is stuff on Soundcloud or Spotify, but I go to those sites hardly at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22am
Jeffrey Davison:

Nulsh: I hear you. Agreed. I do make daily lists, though I will say that the computer is too easy a place to lose yourself in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22am

What extra time? I work 10 to 12 hours a day, though less during weekends. And yet there's talk that the scientific authorities will dock me one or two weeks of vacation time to "compensate for lack of actual work time working from home"

Procrastination: the curse of the creative mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am
Jeffrey Davison:

fred, I meant to add that caveat. Many people working from home have to work more hours, as for example, the conferences on the phone or web eat up a lot of time. For parents home schooling, I know that's very difficult as well. I am now unemployed, so my days are mostly trying to catch up with projects left idle the last two years, when my schedule was frankly overwhelming.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am
Goyim in the AM:

Oh, speaking of guitars -- the Holy Grail Guitar Show, which was supposed to be this weekend and is the finest of its kind, is doing a "virtual guitar show" on their website. Plenty of Shrunken Planet-adjacent artists playing demos on some amazing instruments to be seen from some luthiers you ain't never heard of yet at holygrailguitarshow.com this weekend. (Not a plug -- is a non-profit show and I am not involved this year, but I think Shrunken Planetoids will be interested in checking it out after Jeffrey's show.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am
Jeffrey Davison:

Goyim in the AM: good luck with the woodshedding. I've done a lot of organizing around my place. As I said, a lot of stuff was put off for the last couple of years. Getting rid of excess stuff (that had to stop more than a month ago, though, with the lockdown). I am getting around to printing photographs that I've shot digitally. Uploaded them all, went through thousands of images and chose those that I want to print, and poised to at least start that. A big project, as these photos go back years.

@Jeffrey Davison if you look on Spotify you may see work by some of the artists who haven't released on Bandcamp in a while.

I've noticed that pattern with a few artists: think it has to do with how Spotify acquires music (the artist can't opt out easily if the record label wants in). Remember when Taylor Swift wanted out of Spotify a few years ago? https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/taylor-swift-fought-spotify-for-a-huge-win-for-all-musicians.html/

Good Morning Everyone! My work time skyrocketed when the College where I teach closed its physical plant and put all courses online. I am an adjunct so the pay I receive is so not at all proportional to the number of hours put in teaching and grading papers, not to mention the countless hours of Webex meetings, memos aned more. This inanity will go at least through summer. I have accomplished so little other than sorting CDs, annoying the cat, and walking around the area so I can escape the confines of a studio apartment.

I personally gave up trying to figure out navigating Bandcamp. The app is very uncooperative. They suggest and play music for me that I highly dislike I can’t find genres and often can not find complete albums. I highly like that the majority is not pop or commercial though.I imagine when I type in the Bad Brains they have no agreement with whoever owns the rights but will guide you to covers of the Bad Brains most of which is trash but you don’t know it’s a cover because the description is non existent.

Hi Jeffrey and planeteers-I tried lock down routines but cant stick with them unless they are really vague and unambitious. Came upon a film called Heart worn Highways about 'out law country' music...just so good ! That's what I want to be post lock down :)

@Ignatatus666 the Bandcamp app is indeed pretty limited. I've had better luck with the traditional web site, where you can follow genres and get interesting recs that way. Tbh most of my Bandcamp wishlist and purchases come from WFMU leads, though.

Deborah: I hear you loud and clear. This seems to be the common experience of people working from home. My sister, temporarily doing telemedicine, is swamped, as everything she needs to do takes a lot longer. Her clinic will reopen in a month or so, which brings more immediate hazards than she currently experiences. I do feel for everyone who is suffering with their job, or lack of it, during this time.

@Jeffrey Davison: Medicine is fraught with challenge now. I empathize with your sister's concern. Whenever the topic of will the college open in the Fall comes up, the fear is evident. Zoom or Webex can't hide it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am

Deborah: agreed. Even though we all want to return to a more normal life, it certainly is a concern as to how this is really going to work. Lots of questions. And despite what we'd like to believe, it does seem too early, though the optimist in me (hard to locate, usually) would like to believe that most people will be cautious enough to that we don't drive the spike back up.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am

elwyn: welcome. Certainly, Australia and New Zealand have done a great job fighting the virus, so not surprised. Despite what current is in effect here in NYC, it kinda looked like a regular spring day yesterday, with many people about, and not everyone wearing a mask. Of course, stores still closed, by and large, but lots of traffic also. I fear that people will be drawn outside unnecessarily. I get trips for groceries etc plus a bit of exercise, but it seems that caution is still a good idea.
