great show Devon! I had an Apollo 11 party last summer and we played a lot of "space age jazz", "astro tiki", and threw in some spy jazz and bossanova like this. ahhh summer outdoors..

or mickey rooney as a chinaman in breakfast at tiffany's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
ultradamno:

Not one of the better drivers in cinematic history, Hilligoss' character.

Devon E. Levins:

HI Lady Nightingale! Welcome back on Morricone Island.

JakeGould:

To counter that, casting Eli Wallach as Tuco Ramirez in “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” oddly worked well…

Now Alfred Molina as Tevye in the Broadway production of “Fiddler on the Roof” is odd too… Not bad but honestly, that doesn’t need to happen again.
  7:25pm
P-90:

Just to clarify: Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is Japanese, not a “chinaman”.

Gonna watch Machine Gun Mcain tonight... Thanks.

Any of a number of Western actors who played Jesus and many other Biblical figures.

Who else played Vangelis today??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
mariano:

There was a lot of yellowface back in the day. The Charlie Chan series, The Good Earth, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, etc. This just reminded me: when I was in 5th grade, the 7th and 8th graders' play was The King and I. Yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
ultradamno:

Creamo Coyl played The Dragon
  7:46pm
JakeGould:

I honestly think all of the biblical casting is not great but can be excused by the larger fact that biblical figures are typically misrepresented outside of film.

But I think things like Mickey Rooney doing what he did is really obscene. And Charlie Chan? Horrible.
  7:46pm
Colleen:

that was lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
mariano:

True about Biblical figures, good point. Yeah, those "Asian" portrayals were pretty egregious. Speaking of egregious, remember "Japanese" Sean Connery in "You Only Live Twice"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Mr. Pumpy:

SQÜRL! This is such a killer soundtrack.
  8:00pm
Andal:

Fake Japanese Connery was pretty awful. Who approved that? Also, an atypical Bond in terms of plot and lack of travel.
  8:00pm
P-90:

Thanks Devon!
