[sad piano music] WFMU is your source for the tsunami of cliches and platitudes you need during these trying times. We can do this... together. [muffled jazz noises that sound like, maybe, what is that, cats? cats singing jazz? what is this?]
There's a local grocery store chain around here that has run a commercial with "Holding Out For a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler playing.. it is as unsubtle as it sounds.
I've worked in office buildings with those foot openers. I never touch the door handle - use a paper towel. That's why I'll live forever right?
3:41pm
Dean:
I wouldn't touch myself with a ten-foot pole, let alone stand within six feet of myself.
Reminds me of a sign on a beach near San Francisco. It depicts four generic person icons (like the pink one in the poster), each standing at the corner of a square. Two hypotenuses bisect the square, labeled 6 ft. each. But if that's so, then the sides of the square separating each person from two others are under 4.25 ft.! That's how a pandemic happens.

If bats and pangolins practiced good hygiene, we wouldn't be in this fix.

Bats would like to defend themselves by insisting that humans need to find ways to just fly around to fight off illness
I'm in luck! This just into my email: "I am Vice Chairman of Bank of China, I have Important Matter to Discuss with you concerning my late client. Died without a NEXT OF KIN. Send me your private email for full details information."

You and Iggy, so he once claimed.

Is this a bad time to note that 6 feet isn't used as the standard in metric system countries because 72 inches is 1.83 meters. Those countries use 1.5 meters or 2 meters.

Afternoon! I first heard this song as part of a five-disc mix my dad concocted for his high school reunion when I was a teenager. The description of the circles it was popular in lines up pretty well with what I know if my dad and his friends at the time.
In 10th grade, I incorporated some of the lyrics of this song into a note that I sent to a girl that I had a crush on. It didn't work. Circus Maximus wasn't too big in 1970 Suffolk County.
Irwin! I was driving and couldn't comment, but I gotta say, that Baby Snooks bit was perhaps the greatest, and creepiest, thing I've ever heard. Thanks!

@queens: You didn't miss much although I admit there is some nostalgia value...
Irwin, Morris actually turned this story into a real prank event. He masqueraded in the UK press as a guy called Richard Geefe. It caused outrage at the time. It’s probably still all online and discoverable with a quick search.

Hey Irwin, all! Love this Pink Martini - has a Henry Mancini vibe to it, always a plus.

Back in the day, circa 1980, a friend sent me a cassette of a random WFMU broadcast. The Shaggs were all over it, and it was my introduction to them. I’ve loved WFMU ever since.
Even bothering to comment on this is like trying to hold back a tsumani of willful ignorance with my fingers, but fuck it, whatever. Irwin, if you aren't up for experts or expertise, then you're welcome to refuse all current and future vaccines of all types. Oh, and we'll miss ya.
Scott: We were into the Shaggs in 1978 because of R. Stevie Moore, whose uncle Harry Palmer had seen the Shaggs perform in Fremont NH in 1970 and acquired a box of their original LPs.
Yes, you are. Good job, you're definitely owning the libs today. What award will the National Review send you? A nice stuffed dead clubbed seal perhaps?

'allo Handy! Hellos have lost a lot of meaning these days...when we are all here most of the time. Much appreciated, just the same. I may as well tell you, I want to marry The Proud Girl. I just met her, but I think I could really build a life with her.

I remember hearing this cigar commercial earlier on WFMU. It was part of a compilation of politically incorrect commercials from the (not so) old days. Is this program available some where in the WFMU archives?

Seriously, in hindsight, listening to Klaatu....did we really think it was the Beatles little side-project ?? Although good, hearing it now you realize no-way... !!!
Hey everyone! completely off-any-topic here, by using search I noticed you Irwin, are the dj who has played most Wigwam at wfmu. It might interest you then, that they are still around, in a way. They did their 50th anniversary shows in 2018 with Jim Pembroke as Wigwam(I saw one concert) and without him they have been performing as Wigwam Experience and lately as Wigwam Revisited with Jukka Gustavson, the original keyboard player handling all the vocals even though they are playing the Nuclear Nightclub-era material where he was not part of the line-up at the time (though he's english, Pembroke's lived in USA on and off since 1995 or so - so it is quite a distance to come to work, heh).
5:19pm
David in London:
Not to mention The Beatles also being The Residents. Busy boys they were.
Photo Cha Cha: A few years ago, I played some Wigwam and referred to "their late guitarist Jim Pembroke." Someone on the comments board corrected me. Not sure where I got the impression that Pembroke had gone to the bottom of the food chain.
@5:23 Irwin: most of the people who have played in this mighty fine band are still alive - only the awesome rhythm section of drummer Ronnie Österberg (died 1980) and bass player and composer Pekka Pohjola (died 2008) have passed away. Jim Pembroke has handling lead vocals and keyboards and has written most lyrics and a lot of the music. Alive and well as far as I know, and did a solo album in 2014 (after a 33 year break in solo activities).
@5:30 Irwin: it is nice to see them live whatever the formation, but perhaps they never were the same after Österberg passed away, as some members refer to him as the core of the band. And yes, always in the pocket, his drumming summarized in four neat words.
@5:36 Dean: Tolonen also was a guest on the Helsinki gigs of Wigwam's 50th anniversaryseries of concerts (sadly did not see those), he played during the Jukka Gustavson-penned classic Fairyport. Unfortunately, I do not know if there are subtitles available to that doc, entitled Tolonen.
I had a bunch of Tolonen,Wigwam, and Tasavallan Presidentti records "back in the day." Purged them in the '80s, regrettably, but I still have a couple Tolonen disks, including his Coltrane tribute.
@5:44 Dean: Wigwam are one of the few bands i am crazy enough to pay more than I can afford when any of the old stuff comes up in older editions. Even the 80s re-releases are getting more expensive (I paid 55 euros for such an edition of Tombstone Valentine recently, as some gentle soul had stolen one from me some 22 years previous). Tasavallan Presidentti I really know better only from Magneettimiehen kuolema by the late Pekka Streng (they accompany him on that Finnish Folk classic).
